Norman F. Houck, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on February 20, 2026. Formerly of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, he most recently resided in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.
Born October 24, 1937, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Norman was the son of the late Frank Houck and Helen Kaufer Houck. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sherma Rice; his daughter, Deborah Polito; his brothers, Floyd, Arthur, and John Houck; and his sisters, Frances (Lovey), Catherine, and Dorothy.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
Norman was a personable and friendly man who enjoyed making people laugh, often even at his own expense. Known for his integrity and kindness, he lived by the belief that true character is shown in what you do when no one is watching. He had a deep love for animals and once lovingly cared for abandoned baby birds, climbing a ladder daily to feed them until they were strong enough to fly—an act that brought him great joy.
A talented pool player and avid golfer, Norman was well known for his machine-like straight golf shots. He also enjoyed oil painting and spending time on the golf course with friends. He was a member of the NRA, Moose Lodge, Moose Legion, Indian Wells Golf Club, and International Golf Club. In business, Norman owned and operated The Dental Place, in Lock Haven and Williamsport, PA. where many lovingly referred to him as “Doc.”
In 2002, Norman and his beloved wife, Linda, moved from Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. Norman and Linda met in Williamsport and shared a deep and lasting love that was admired by many. Their devotion to one another was an inspiration to friends and family alike. Norm started to sing karaoke when he moved to SC and did quite well. People gave him requests and he sang a lot of love songs to his wife. Some called him Stormin Normal. He sang Elvis, Hank Williams, David Allen Coe, Kenny Rogers, and of course Marty Robbins. He was just a delight to be around.
Norman is survived by his loving wife, Linda S. Houck of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; his daughter, Kimberly Laskowski and grandchildren Beverly and Amy of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; his nephew, Richard Floyd of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina and his 2 children; and his niece, Jackie Rosenthal Pandy of Clearwater, Florida, and her two children.
Norman’s family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to his many wonderful friends for the love and memories I will take with me. Special gratitude is given to his devoted wife, Linda, for her constant love and care, as well as to FNP Virginia Bell and NP Jennifer Rozak for the compassionate care they provided.
A celebration of life for Norman will be held on Saturday April 25, 2026, from 2pm -5pm at the American Legion Post 178 3950 US-17 BUS, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity. Norman’s family encourages everyone to honor his memory by giving to a meaningful cause and cherishing every moment spent with loved ones.
Norman will be remembered for his humor, generosity, love of life, and the kindness he showed to both people and animals. His legacy of laughter, integrity, and love will live on in all who knew him.
