Lester M. Shaffer, Jr., “Cappy” to his friends and “Rocky” to family of Fairfield Twp. passed away at home, Tuesday, January 30, 2018 after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Lester was born December 21, 1954 to Lester M. Shaffer, Sr. and Martha E. Summers. He and his wife Cindy (nee Guinter) were married on July 30, 1972 and they observed their 45th wedding anniversary last year.
Lester attended Montoursville Area Schools and was employed as a teenager at Artley’s Nursery. He worked as an upholster at Schnadig Corporation from 1972 thru 2004 when the local plant closed its doors. He then obtained his CDL and was an over the road truck driver for Fry’s Plastic, Pennsdale.
Lester was an accomplished outdoorsman who spent as much time as possible hunting and trapping. He especially enjoyed mentoring those who were interested in hunting. Lester enjoyed riding his Harleys with his wife on the back and in the company of good friends who shared a similar passion for motorcycles. He especially loved “Jamming” on the Harmonicas with his great granddaughter, Alexis.
Lester was a member of the Piney Ridge Hunting Club, Shingle Hollow Hunting Club, Highland Lake Manor and the American Legion Post 104.
Lester is survived by his wife Cindy; daughters, Heather and Leslie; grandchildren, Danielle, Troy, Benjamin, Dakota, Bane, and Tyerney; great grandchildren, Carson, Alexis (who was the apple of her Pappy’s eye), and soon to arrive Maverick; brothers, Howard (Skip), Rick and Tom; sisters, Nola, Lura, Cathy, and Tawnya.
Lester was predeceased by his parents, step mother Gloria, maternal grandparents Howard and Hattie Summers, paternal grandparents, Clarence and Nola Shaffer, and brothers, Robert, Ted, Terry and Tim.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St. Montoursville. Friends and family will be received one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions in Lester’s name be made to: PA Game Commission, 2001 Elmerton Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17110, in the memo area write in: PA Mentored Youth Hunting Program,
