Jewelry Trends

One of the easiest and chicest ways to update your outfit in the summer is with jewelry. I’ve been opting lately for simple garments like pull-on linen pants, white tanks, and Velcro-strap sandals for my daily look. In general, summer style has fewer layers, lighter fabrics, and plays into a “throw it on and go” approach. This creates a blank canvas to bust out some statement pieces to elevate your look from humdrum to chic and sleek. Let’s run down some trends from bold studs to bangles, and mixing metals.

First up, chokers. Not the delicate, ribboning, or crochet kind from the 90s and early 00s, think sculptural and metal. A structured shape rendered in hammered silver or brass frames the neckline to elevate a simple scoop-neck V-neck tee. Cultural Elements’ Hand-Beaten Brad Multi-Brand Collar Necklace features several rings with an open back, and a gentle flex that slips on, adding polish to a tank top and maxi skirt for a minimalist evening out.  Another slip-on option is Grace Minimalist’s Gold Cuff Necklace, which opens in front, no clasp, no fuss, easy elegance.

Another necklace option is wearing a bold pendant. I’m a huge fan of stone pendants with chains, but for summer I’m turning toward more natural rope or corded necklaces. Wolf & Badger’s Sahara Necklace features a horseshoe-shaped resin pendant with a suede cord and comes in neutral shades of mauve, beige, and ecru. This organic-feeling piece adds natural polish to a summer dress or linen blouse. For something with a bit of art deco drama, there’s Buddha Stones’ Black Obsidian Liuli Picture Stone Copper pendant. This necklace combines several elements, including black obsidian, liuli, and copper, with an adjustable black cord. Again, wear this on its own with simple pieces like a white button-down or a black tank for a dynamic and potentially healing ensemble. Not to get too woo-woo, but black obsidian promotes spiritual growth and alignment, at least according to the retailer’s website. I’m all for combining mindful self-care with accessories, so I’ll take it!

A third necklace to consider this season is the return of the tassel, now in a more refined, grown-up style. Instead of overly bohemian, they feel sculptural and fluid. You may be seeing that structure, organic, dare I say earthy, is an overarching theme of these jewelry trends, which speak to the summer and being outside. A very grown-up version to consider is James Michelle’s Shell Tassel Necklace, in black cord and fringe, with a gold seashell focal point. For the perfect night out piece, consider Vince Camuto’s Gold-Tone Long Tassel Chain Necklace available at Macy’s. Set in gold-tone mixed metals of zinc and brass, this tassel adds a feminine touch to an office outfit or a bit of elegance to simple trouser shorts and a camisole top.

Speaking of mixed metals, matching your metals has a “been there, done that” staleness. Mixing gold and silver tones adds dimension, especially when you pair separate pieces that look more intentional, creating an effortless layered effect. However, I’d be the first to admit I prefer mixed metals in one piece, like Lands’ End’s Water-Resistant Mixed Metal Short Link Necklaced. This is the perfect way to add some glint and style on pool day or at the beach. Or Oliver & Blake’s Harmony Wrap Ring of intertwined silver and gold band, creating a twisted knot-like effect, again that nods to organic earthy-feel pieces.

From metals to earlobes, statement studs are the new go-to earring this summer. Look for polished, slightly bold studs that don’t compete with any other pieces. I wouldn’t pair a metal collar choker with an earring like Kate Spade’s Molten Glass Statement studs, with their gold-framed, jewel-toned crystals. Too much competition; instead, wear a studded earring to draw focus to your face rather than crowding it. Save necklaces for another occasion.  Statement studs, like Machete’s Sculpture Studs in a bold green malachite, can also add color to an all-white, black, or beige look.

Lastly, the power of bangles. One is nice, but two show intention. Sculptural bangles like Allie + Bess’s Sophie Trio Bracelet in mixed metals hit the mark on two of the latest jewelry trends. Or pick up two single bangles like Madewell’s Resin Sculptural Wide Cuff in dark brown and wear one on each wrist to create balance, which is an easy styling trick that always lands.

This summer, it’s less about piling everything on and more about choosing pieces that feel intentional with an emphasis on natural elements. These trends aren’t about overhauling your entire jewelry collection, but more so making small, strategic updates and tweaks that make everything you already own feel fresh again.
