The events celebrating America250PA are about to hit full speed. As are a couple of our summer fun giveaways at the Webb Weekly. Before I get started, a couple of weeks back, I dropped the baton on one of the 400-meter relay gold medalists from Hughesville. Sierra DeWire is only a junior. I already had her moving on to our next stop in life after graduation. Good news for the Spartans, she will be back for another season.
I got a call recently from the good folks at Backyard Broadcasting. They filled me in on everything going on with their Annual Set the Night to Music celebration and fireworks, which are normally held in Billtown. They were determined that the show must go on, and there would be fireworks, and that’s just what they did. A tip of my Webb Weekly cap with the American flag on the side to all involved for their stick-to-itiveness.
I’m sure Editor Steph will have much more next week in her 4th of July issue, but for now, the great news is there will be Set the Night to Music fireworks. The rest of the events had to be modified for this year. The Lycoming County Fairgrounds will host the event, with gates opening at 7 p.m. The night sky will come to life, along with the great music Backyard provides, beginning at 9:30. What a great opportunity for those of you living in the eastern end of the county to enjoy what the Williamsport area has experienced for the last 25 years.
If you want to see fireworks over Williamsport, Gabe and his gang at Crosscutterland will have them bookending Independence Day on June 27th and July 11th. Then twice more as summer rolls on, on July 18th and August 1st.
It does my baseball heart and mind great to see Maddix Delena from Montoursville and the University of Connecticut, and Nick Barone from Loyalsock and Liberty University playing at Journey Bank Ball Park at Historic Bowman Field for the Cutters. I know their families well and wish them the best as they’re trying to run down that childhood dream of playing professional baseball. And that gets us to our Crosscutter America’s Pastime Giveaway of the season.
In staying with our All-American theme, you must be a veteran to win. The first two folks who reach me on Wednesday and the first two on Thursday win 4 stadium reserved partner vouchers for tickets. Along with $40 in Cutters Cash to be used towards dinner and a beverage at the ballpark. You must call or text me; my contact information is on Page 4. Please, veterans only, and simply say you want to watch Maddix and Nick play.
In closing out this week, our Great American Cookout and Summer Prize Pack winner will be announced soon. Thanks to all who have entered. Just a reminder, the winner will be drawn on June 24th. Please, at this point, if you’re entering, drop them off at our South Side office. Every year, I receive a few in the mail after the contest has ended. We will have the winner along with full details in our next issue.
Please drive safely, root for the Home Team, and celebrate our Freedom. Do not allow a distraction or impairment to get in the way.
God Bless America.
