For those of you who tried to contact me over the past few days. I am very sorry. I am off the grid on Pine Creek, and I will hit you up on Monday. We have to punch out this afternoon, but I am then heading north for another golf tournament in Emporium. Don’t worry. My Jeep is packed with all kinds of gear. Kayak. Fishing rods. Golf clubs. Tent. Toothbrush. I actually drove to Avis to submit this article. True story. I even took a selfie with a guy who thought I was stranded.
Congratulations to the Montgomery Lady Red Raiders. PIAA Small School State Champions in softball. Incredible season capped off with the gold crown. I am very proud of Coach Glenn and his entire squad. Bravo to all. One for the ages.
Montgomery’s senior ace pitcher Faith Persing and I are buds. My son Jensen and her younger brother were teammates. Briar is also a stud. They kept winning games, and our families spent lots of time together. Faith was in attendance almost always. She was the cute kid in a floppy hat on a folding chair in centerfield with moms. I enjoyed talking sports and getting to know this youngster who is heading to Bloomsburg next fall. She laughed at my jokes, and we had great conversations in between innings.
Faith is a very talented player — one of the best pitchers in the State of Pennsylvania. But what impresses me most is her character. She is so dang nice and humble. Faith would always go out of her way to say hello if I was broadcasting a football game or coaching basketball. This made me feel special. I congratulated Faith and her parents. They were all so quick with their thankful responses. Faith continues to stay grounded and offered praises for her teammates and coaches. She appreciated all of the support from the entire Montgomery nation. Great stuff, Faith.
Props to my man Logan McGinn. The 10-year-old golfing phenom made history AGAIN. Logan’s triumphs and successes are well written. It is truly amazing on what this kid has accomplished. Logan WON the prestigious 2022 Press Thornton Future Masters in Dothan, Ala. McGinn from the South Side fired a 3 under par 67 to claim the U10 title. You should see the list of names who competed in this tournament. Stewart Cink. Lucas Glover. Curtis Strange. Scott Scheffler and Hal Sutton. Dude. There are tons more too.
Logan finished third in this same tournament last summer. That earned him a spot on the front cover. Who knows what lies ahead. Perhaps we need to raise our standards. But my young friend continues to excel, and I am so proud of him.
Logan and I have agreed to our terms. I requested a friendly rematch. I was looking for a shot at redemption. This is breaking news. 18 holes. No strokes. But I get four mulligans. Stayed tuned. We are hoping to do this rather soon. Of course, I will keep you all posted. When it happens, I will tell you more about Logan’s impressive victory. Incredible bud. Happy Fourth. Cheers.
