Grads and Giveaways

A Webb Weekly tip of the hat and congratulations to all our recent high school graduates. What a special time in a young person’s life when they take that walk with their fellow classmates and celebrate an achievement that began with their very first days of school. I always enjoy looking at the pictures that chronicle a graduate’s journey. I especially like when they include the baby and preschool photos, and you can see that little boy or girl grow into that young man or lady right before your eyes. I also enjoy the funny pictures that are thrown in; you know, the ones that the parents and grandparents get a kick out of but might slightly embarrass the graduate. It is truly amazing how fast these kids grow up in today’s world.

The Class of 2022 has faced many challenges and should be commended on how they responded. They could take nothing for granted during their high school years, from whether the school would even be open to implementing online classes and the always-present concerns of the cancelation or postponement of athletics and extracurricular activities. And I hate to even bring up the mask issue.

It has been a blessing for the Class of 2022 that their final year has been as close to normal as possible and that all scheduled events have been with their friends and in front of family, friends, fans, and spectators. Remember, it wasn’t that long ago when even the celebration of commencement was in question.

The education, development, and opportunities of high school are so very important in getting an individual ready for the next step of their life. Whether they’re attending college, trade school, joining the workforce, or enlisting in the military, this time frame should help prepare and provide direction and guidance. These are also days when our students are able to participate in activities that may end when their high school experience does. So, losing out on these activities for whatever reason are truly lost opportunities of a lifetime.

My advice to the Class of 2022 — take advantage of, and work hard at, the opportunities that you have created at this point of your journey. If you are ever unsure where your next step may take you, keep working hard to create a new opportunity. As you are beginning a new chapter in your life, make it what you want in the name of good. If you ever reach a point when you want to change direction, the key is to be out there working to create opportunity, not waiting for it to happen.

When I was a student, my favorite words were, schools out for summer! As a matter of fact, that still brings a smile to my face. Please keep your eyes peeled and pay extra close attention to the kids as they enjoy the sunshine, and all the summer days and nights have to offer.

That gets me to what some of you were looking for last week, some great summer fun giveaways for both the young and young at heart. The Williamsport Crosscutters have opened their season at Muncy Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field. We are proud to partner with the organization, and all that’s going on at the old ballpark can be found in Cutter’s Carvings within our pages during the MLB Draft League season.

Gabe, Rhashan, and the gang are guaranteed to make the night a whole lot of fun. If you would like to enjoy a great night of smiles and baseball at Bowman, be one of the first four folks that call or text me at 570-337-0755 and win our Webb Weekly Grand Slam Package. This includes 4 Box seats to an upcoming Crosscutters game of your choosing and a snack or beverage at the ballpark. I’m sure I can probably even get Rhashan to have his picture taken with you. Please just let me know why you’re calling; I get forgetful.

My next giveaway is only for kids; however, a parent or guardian must call to win. If you have a young athlete that would like to attend Coach Ron Insinger’s CI’s Basketball Camp or Coach Mary Louise Mazzante’s Fast Maz Speed and Agility Summer Camp, call or text me to win your choice! There are four sessions of CI’s camp to choose from; see page 54 Fast Maz’s camps begin on June 15th details on page 30. Both are legendary coaches in their own right that make summer camp a lot of fun.

And lastly, don’t forget about our Webb Weekly Great American Cookout, which can be found on page 46 Just fill out the entry form and mail it or drop it off at my office and win the Summer Prize Pack Giveaway. A great 5 Burner Grill from Elery Nau Hardware, and yes, it is assembled. A $50 gift card to Rupert’s Specialty Meats and to wash down whatever you throw on the grill, a $50 gift card to Frosty’s Beverage. If you’re the lucky winner, we will deliver it and even fire it up if you would like, as we provide a tank of gas.

Well, that got me hungry to throw something on the grill. Again, congrats to the Class of 2022.

Let’s all be safe out there.

God Bless America.
