Volunteer Opportunities Available at the YWCA

Volunteers are what have propelled the YWCA Northcentral PA forward for the past 126 years. There are numerous opportunities for community members to get involved at the YWCA to help us eliminate racism and empower women in Lycoming County.
We are looking for new volunteers for Wise Options, Liberty House, The Boutique and administration.
Wise Options & Liberty House
Our two main programs, Wise Options and Liberty House are looking for passionate people who want to work with survivors of violence and those experiencing homelessness. Potential volunteers are required to go through 80 hours of direct service training starting from 6 – 8 p.m. on August 7 at the YWCA, 815 W. Fourth St. There will be weekly two-hour trainings until the required hours are completed.
Heather Reeder, Direct Services Supervisor, Erin Scholl, Advocacy and Education Supervisor, and other knowledgeable staff members will lead the trainings. All of the staff members teaching have many years of experience working directly with clients and training volunteers in both programs.
The trainings properly prepare volunteers to handle the day to day work of helping clients. After being fully trained, volunteers can follow their passion for whichever aspects they enjoy most.
For Wise Options they can answer the 24/7 confidential hotline, be with a victim in the emergency room or at a district magistrate’s office or educate the public about our life-saving services.
Volunteers can be called to the emergency room to support a victim through the process of how a sexual assault nurse will help them. They will also inform them of the options they have after the fact such as counselling, shelter services and legal advocacy.
For Liberty House, volunteers will provide support to residents, complete administrative work, participate in awareness events regarding homelessness and sober living and facilitate events/activities for clients.
All potential volunteers are required to have their child abuse clearance, FBI finger printing and background check before beginning the training
To register please complete the form at ywcawilliamsport.org. Please contact Reeder at hreeder@ywcawilliamsport.org or Scholl at escholl@ywcawilliamsport.org or by calling our Wise Options at 1-800-326-8483 for any questions about volunteer training. For questions regarding Liberty House, please contact Jernae Drummond at jdrummond@ywcawilliamsport.org or 570-322-4637 ext. 176.
The Boutique
The Boutique is the YWCA’s own gently-used clothing shop that directly supports our programs. Volunteers are necessary for The Boutique to serve the community who are looking for the highest quality items at great prices.
Volunteers are needed to sort donations, price inventory, run the cash register and provide friendly customer service to every guest who stops by. You will work with a fellow volunteer who will give you on-the-job training to get all new volunteers accustomed to the shop.
If you are interested in volunteering at The Boutique, please contact Kahlie Dehotman at kdehotman@ywcawilliamsport.org or 570-322-4637 ext. 121.
Administration
The YWCA cannot run effectively without a high quality administrative team. We are looking for an extra set of hands to accomplish the daily tasks that ensure each day runs smoothly. If you have office skills such as answering phones, helping clients, keeping schedules, accepting donations and more.
If you are interested in volunteering in administration, please contact Anna Thompson at athompson@ywcawilliamsport.org or 570-322-4637 ext. 159.
