Andrea’s Country Home Cookin: Cool Beverage Anyone?

You are out in your yard, sun’s a blazin’. You are picking those little jerks that seem to pop up every other day in your flower garden. They just don’t seem to stop taking over your yard. Weeds. Another great blessing of summer. Sweat is rolling down your neck and you feel like you are in the realms of hell with the devil. Ya know, the days when your thighs stick to plastic chairs!? Can you tell I just love summer? NOT!! It’s days like these you crave those cold refreshing drinks. Whether you are by the pool, baking in the sun doing yard work, or doing some front porch sittin’. It’s mid July folks, these are those days!

These drinks only take a few minutes, and boy do they hit the spot on a hot summer day! Sorry DQ, but all you need is a blender and you can have a delicious Orange Julius without even leaving your home. Frost them mugs and be ready to feel refreshed with these delicious drinks. It helps me like summer a little more. Just a smig.

Orange Julius

Ingredients:
• 1 (12 oz.) can frozen orange juice concentrate, partially thawed
• 1 cup milk
• 1 cup water
• 3/4 cup “pulp” orange juice (If you don’t have this, you can still make it without)
• 1/3 cup sugar
• 1 tsp. vanilla extract
• 2 ½ cups ice cubes

Directions:

Put all your ingredients into the blender. I put the liquids in first, then the ice, because it seems to mix it up better. Poor into glasses and place in freezer about 20-30 minutes to chill. Slice oranges and place on rim for festive beverage.

Frozen Strawberry Lemonade

Ingredients:
• 1 bag of frozen strawberries
• 2 Tbsp. of frozen lemonade concentrate
• 2 cups of sprite
• 2 Tbsp. sugar

Directions:

Add ingredients to a blender and mix well.

Serve in a glass, garnish with a slice of lemon, take a sip and feel instantly cooler this summer!
