Adopt and Shoppe Craft Fair To Benefit Local SPCA To Be Held April 8

A school community service project is yielding a fundraising event to benefit the local SPCA.

“What is not to love about our precious furbabies?”

That is a question John Covey asked when he came together with Aaron Bird and Griffynn Metzger to organize the first Adopt & Shoppe Craft Fair. All three young men are seniors that attend South Williamsport Area High School.

These three are completing a daunting task of organizing a big charity event to aid their local shelter that houses various animals, the Lycoming County SPCA.

As an assignment, they were given a school-year-long project in their Political Science class where they step back from everyday life and give back to the community. Ryan Carper is the Political Science Teacher at the South Williamsport Area High School. He wanted his students to come out of their typical shell of comfort, and aid whatever they are passionate about. Each student in the Senior Class was given this project to help out a cause they felt needs aid. That is why Covey, Bird, and Metzger picked this as their Civic Action Project.

“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul is unawakened. My passion for animals has grown since birth, and I am honored to organize an event to help our furry friends who are in need,” Covey told Webb Weekly.

Aaron Bird stated, “I am so excited to raise awareness for a cause that really hits home for a lot of people.”
The third organizer of the event, Griffynn Metzger said, “This organization can always use help in one way or another and raising money through this event hopefully will help them a ton.”

The event is titled the Adopt and Shoppe Craft Fair. The event will be on Sunday, April 8, 2018, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the South Williamsport High School Gymnasium. At the event, there will be many craft vendors, live bands, and the Real Taste Food Truck will be selling food as well. Also, the Lycoming SPCA will be attending with animals that are up for adoption.

Admission to the event is $2 for adults, $1 for students, or donation of any pet supplies, including food, treats, brushes, toys, cat litter, etc., gains free admission. 100% Proceeds will be donated to our furry friends inside the SPCA.
