Anti-Aging Habits for Your 30s

Your 30s are a great time of life! At least they have been for me thus far. Once you’ve hit your mid-30s, you hopefully have gained some knowledge about life and have blossomed into a better, more mature, and more polished version of yourself. However, with wisdom can come laugh lines, frown lines, and a few creases in between. While you may have stopped worrying so much about what other people think, you’re not necessarily ready to have Father Time walk all over your face. It’s never too late, or too early, to develop anti-aging habits. Here are a few tricks to adopt for younger-looking skin.

The very first rule of skincare, no matter your age, is to take off your makeup before bed. Sleeping in a full face of make up on the regular will cause pores to clog and make them look bigger over time. I, for one, like to clean my face after work/when I’m in for the night. I use cold cream to remove makeup, then a gentle facial wash for a fresh-faced evening at home.

Speaking of bed, perfecting your nighttime skin routine is key once you hit the big 3-0. Overnight is prime time for cell regeneration, so take advantage by using products with ingredients like lactic acid and retinol, which are ideal for anti-aging. I like to mix things up, depending on how my skin is feeling. On a normal night, I’ll use the classic Olay Regeneriest Night Recovery cream. If my face is feeling dry, I’ll use a nighttime moisture max. Each woman will have her own overnight needs and should develop a skincare routine that works best for her. Regardless of the type and/or variety of products you use, don’t forget your neck. You should always lotion up your neck and chest before bed. Anti-aging doesn’t just stop at your jawline.

If you really want to customize your skincare, try adding a serum to your beauty regimen. A serum will not only keep your face super-hydrated, it can also firm and brighten your skin. I’ve recently started using a vitamin C enhanced serum from TruSkin available on Amazon. That extra vitamin boost pulls double duty, by preventing breakouts (which CAN still happen in your 30s), while at the same time working to reduce signs of aging.

Another product to add to your daily routine is eye cream. This will stop deep-set crow’s feet before they start. Since fatigue shows up in your eyes almost instantly, and the area is prone to dehydration (not to mention it’s where people look first), it’s so important to take special care of the skin around your eyes.

One more step for your anti-aging routine is applying a mask at least once a week (twice if possible) to keep your face looking and feeling its best. I’m a huge fan of masks in general, from clay masks, to charcoal masks, to sheet masks. There are a ton of affordable options out there, so play around and see which types of masks work best for you.

Lastly, ladies in their 30s should regularly exfoliate. Not only does daily exfoliation get rid of that invisible layer of film that builds up on your face, it also helps all of the products mentioned here penetrate your skin. No matter how many creams, lotions, serums, and masks you use to fight signs of aging, if you’re not exfoliating, you’re working at half-steam. If you find that daily exfoliating leaves you dry, opt for a gentler daily exfoliating cleanser or a weekly at-home peel to keep away the build-up.

The 30s are a great decade and if you take care of your skin, you’ll be set for even better decades ahead!
