I’m Elliott Weiss and I’m running for Lycoming County Commissioner. My wife Barbara and I raised our family in Lycoming County. My wife Barbara and I raised our family in Lycoming County. I believe it is a great place to live and offers outstanding opportunities, but we are suffering from problems that need solutions.

Over the last 4-years, taxes in Lycoming County have went up 36.7%. Even with this increase, the county faces huge debts now and into the future. I’ve gone town-to-town and walked door-to-door. I did not meet one citizen in Lycoming County that is happy about their taxes going up! I do not support tax increases! As County Commissioner, I will work to consolidate county operations into one building and sell the unused county estate to pay down debts and not increase your taxes.

County economy has been stagnant for over 10-years. We haven’t had major industrial or job growth since the “gas boom”. I will promote tourism to give the county economy a quick boost. This includes hunting, fishing, camping, boating, kayaking, motorcycling, biking, Rails-to-Trails and all seasonal and yearly activities in Lycoming County. I will put great effort into developing the land across from the landfill to bring new business, jobs and opportunities into the county.

Low-lying areas are ravaged by perennial flooding. Residents face huge costs in insurance and a decrease in property values. I will support flood control projects and help residents in flood prone areas, especially in the hardest hit towns of Muncy and Jersey Shore.

Current Lycoming County Commissioners have expressed that they want a county tax reassessment, which will cost MILLIONS OF DOLLARS! This will financially harm the middleclass and elderly citizens in Lycoming County. I do NOT support a tax reassessment. I will put a STOP to county overspending and tax increases. We need to grow the economy, promote business and offer better, more affordable opportunities to the people of Lycoming County.

The population in Lycoming County has gone from roughly 120,000 to about 113,000 in a very short period of time. People are fleeing to other areas for better opportunities. I want to bring back the opportunities to Lycoming County. It’s time to grow the economy and work for the people of Lycoming County. Let’s give our youth a reason to stay, rather than go somewhere else because the hometown offers too little and has become too expensive to grow and raise their families.

I’m ready to work hard for you, my friends and neighbors of Lycoming County. I’m Elliott Weiss and I would appreciate your vote for County Commissioner on November 5th.
