Walter Edmund Heiser III, 84

Walter Edmund Heiser III, formally of Wilmington, Middletown, and Milton, DE, and finally residing in Williamsport, PA with his daughter and her family, passed away at home on May 5, 2024, at the age of 84.

Walter was born on September 20, 1939, to Walter E. Heiser, Jr. and Edna Blough Heiser in Wilmington, DE. He graduated from James H. Groves High School. He pursued further education through extension classes at Cornell University and the University of Delaware.

Throughout his life, Walter was surrounded by love and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara C. (Heaney) Heiser, and their children: Walter E. Heiser IV (JoAnn), Debra Mintun (David Lee), Martha Raposa (Ron Easter), Stephen Heiser (Renae), Glenn P. Heiser (Sharon), Aaron F. Heiser (Kimberly), and Katie Hummel (Frank).

Walter’s legacy extends through his cherished grandchildren: Schuyler Heiser, Theresa Latourell, Paul Raposa, Evan Heiser, Frank W. Hummel III, and Elizabeth Hummel. Additionally, he leaves behind seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his family, Walter is survived by his sisters, Nancy Robson and Gloria Ann Dolan, who shared in his joys and sorrows throughout their lives.

Walter’s professional journey was marked by dedication and commitment. He worked tirelessly for 35 years as a meatcutter for Acme Markets, retiring in 2004. In addition, for three decades, he faithfully served residential newspaper routes in Edgemoor, Glasgow, Newark, and the Rehobeth Beach Area becoming a familiar figure in the neighborhoods.

Walter E. Heiser III will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Robin Metzger, Walter’s caregiver, and to the hospice nurses of Residential HealthCare Group for their compassionate and heartfelt care.

A viewing at 1pm followed by a memorial service at 2pm to celebrate Walter’s life will be held at Daniels and Hutchinson, Middletown, DE on Friday, May 10th. Immediately following the service, the interment will take place at St. Francis Xavier (Old Bohemia) in Warwick, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Food Bank of Delaware, the Culinary Program, in Walter’s honor.
