Susan Long Myers, 72, of Williamsport, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026 at the Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital.
Born on February 24, 1954 in Williamsport, Sue was the daughter of the late Edward and Jane (Lentz) Long.
She spent her life making and keeping friends; taking genuine interest in people’s lives and always putting the needs of others before herself.
Sue quickly made friends at Loyalsock Elementary School, and by the time she graduated from Loyalsock High School in 1972, she had formed many friendships that would last a lifetime. A close-knit group of these friends, affectionately known as “The Girls,” remained an important part of her life. They continue the tradition of taking an annual late-summer getaway together, most recently visiting the Finger Lakes last year.
While attending Clarion University, Sue formed enduring friendships that remained a treasured part of her life for many years.
After returning home, Sue worked a few different jobs before becoming the “record girl” at The Stereo House. She often joked that, surrounded by a dozen single men and one female bookkeeper, she had one firm rule: “I’m not dating any of my coworkers.” As it turned out, her time at The Stereo House led to two of the most meaningful relationships of her life. Through the bookkeeper, she met the bookkeeper’s sister, who became her roommate and a lifelong friend. Then, on Sue’s very last day at The Stereo House, one of her coworkers, Joe Myers, finally asked her out. That first date marked the beginning of a love story that led to their marriage on June 15, 1985.
Sue’s next career move proved to be the one that shaped the rest of her professional life when she accepted a position in a dental office. She later joined Dr. Dan Wurster’s practice, where he became not only her employer but also her mentor. Working as his dental assistant, Sue was encouraged by Dr. Wurster to pursue her education at WACC and become a dental hygienist.
After earning her credentials, Sue’s passion for the profession led her back to WACC, where she joined the faculty as an instructor. With the school’s support, she went on to earn her master’s degree. Throughout her career, Sue built countless meaningful friendships with dentists, hygienists, fellow educators, students, and patients, touching many lives with her kindness, knowledge, and dedication.
Sue and Joe were baptized into Christ in the Spring of 1983 and have been active members at First Christian Church of Montoursville. Over the years, Sue taught and served in many ministries and built many wonderful relationships with her brothers and sisters in Christ. Beyond her church, she has been a long-time member of the Bible Study Fellowship (BSF).
When Sue and Joe learned they were unable to have children, they embraced adoption and began working with Lois Williams at Eckels Adoption Agency. Their family was forever changed in 1998 with the adoption of their daughter, Sarah, from China, and was joyfully expanded in 2003 when they adopted their second daughter, Hannah.
Sue was truly born to be a mother. Long before she had children of her own, she lovingly filled that role as a favorite aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Motherhood was a gift she embraced wholeheartedly, and she devoted herself to creating a loving home for her daughters.
Sue also helped establish a local chapter of Families with Children from China (FCC), where families found friendship, support, and a shared sense of community. While the children were young, the group was an active and meaningful part of their lives, fostering friendships and creating lifelong bonds that continue to this day.
Sue enrolled both Sarah and Hannah in Suzuki violin lessons with Pat Thayer, where she once again formed meaningful and lasting relationships with other families. Creating connections and building community was something that came naturally to Sue throughout her life.
Sue had a generous and compassionate spirit, giving both her time and resources to many organizations that supported others. She volunteered with the Food Bank and was an active member of We Are Women Helping Others (WAWHO) in Williamsport. For the past 20 years, Sue dedicated herself to Advancing Communities through Education and Service (ACES International), an organization that serves communities in need in the Dominican Republic. Through her many trips to the Dominican Republic, Sue not only contributed her time and talents but also developed deep friendships and lasting connections with the people she met there.
She was an incredible wife, devoted mother, and incredibly fun grandmother; as well as a loving daughter, aunt, and cousin. Since her passing, the many heartfelt messages shared about Sue have carried a common theme: “Sue was the nicest (or kindest) person I knew.”
Sue is survived by her husband, Joseph Myers of Williamsport; daughters, Sarah Myers of Tampa, FL and Hannah Myers of Pittsburgh; and grandchildren, Jayvion and Journee Brown.
Relatives and friends will be received from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, July 15th at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport.
