Roy F. Curchoe, 80, of Williamsport, passed away at UPMC Williamsport on Thursday, May 7, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Roy was born in Williamsport on August 5, 1945, a son of the late Lawrence S. and Kathryn (Gardner) Curchoe. He was a 1963 graduate of Williamsport Area High School and attended Rider College and Lycoming College.
He was a faithful member of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church. From a young age, he worked in the family business, Curchoe’s Food Center, where he later served as store manager until the business closed. He then continued working in retail until his retirement at age 78.
Roy was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for many years and was active with the local council. He often spoke fondly of camping at Camp Kline. He was also a longtime member of Toastmasters, where he served as president for a period of time. Roy enjoyed spending time with his family, meeting people, and making new friends. His many interests included bicycling, sailing on Rose Valley Lake, and making memories with family along Pine Creek, where he enjoyed kayaking, biking, and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Mary J. (Schon) Curchoe, with whom he celebrated 59 years of marriage on April 22; his daughters, Lisa (Stan) Stutzman of Montoursville, Melanie (Tim) Bechtol of Cogan Station, and Julie (Greg) Adams of Eagles Mere; his grandchildren, Kathryn Stutzman, Lillian Stutzman, Thomas Stutzman, Caiden Bechtol, and Elijah Bechtol; his great-grandchildren, Jaina, Nathalie, Charlie, and Mollie; his sister, Laura Cullens (Robert Hetzel) of Louisville, KY; and his brothers, Richard (Shirleen) Curchoe of New Salisbury, IN, Stephen (Donna) Curchoe of Loyalsock, Fred (Jeannie) Curchoe of South Williamsport, and brother-in-law Thomas Stiadle of Montgomery, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Stiadle
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1305 Northway Rd., at 11:00am on Friday, May 15, 2026. There will be a time of visitation prior to the Mass from 9:45 – 10:45am in church. There will be a luncheon to follow at St. Lawrence’s Hall.
