Ronald A. Topel, 76, of Williamsport, passed away May 2, 2024 at Geisinger Danville with his loving wife of 43 years, Luann (Ray) Topel by his side.

Born October 18, 1947, in Rochester, NY, he was the son of the late Roy and Gertrude (Schoenheit) Topel.

Ron was a 1965 graduate of R.L. Thomas High School in Webster, NY, and went on to graduate from Syracuse University with a BA in Biology. After graduating from college, he moved to Lycoming County and began his life long career as a water quality specialist with the Department of Environmental Protection until his retirement. In his younger years, Ron was very athletic and enjoyed track and field and playing volleyball. He was a fan of the Boston Celtics, Syracuse football and basketball, and a longtime N.Y. Yankee fan. He was a great outdoorsman who liked golfing and hunting, but his passion was fishing. Since his childhood, Ron would enjoy traveling to Canada, fishing for Walleye, and spending time in his family cabin.

In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by a brother, Larry Topel of Ontario, NY. He was blessed with so many great friends and extended family. Ron was a big dog lover, and he leaves behind his sweet golden doodle, Ginger.

Along with his parents, Ron is preceded in death by a brother, David Topel.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for all of the care and compassion given to them by the Geisinger Danville Hospital team. A special thank you to Dr. Lynch, Dr. Adonizio, and Dr. Jha for their exceptional care during such a difficult time.

In keeping with Ron’s wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
