Raymond Keith “Ray” Mahaffey II, 57

Raymond Keith “Ray” Mahaffey II, 57, of Linden, died at home, Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Born Nov. 6, 1960, in Williamsport, he was a son of Raymond K. Mahaffey Sr. (Josephine Hillyard), of Linden and Norma Glosser Mahaffey Weaver (Robert), of Williamsport.

Ray was a 1978 graduate of Williamsport Area High School. He worked in the construction and excavation field his entire adult life. He was employed by Lycoming Supply Inc., and most recently by T.W. Mahaffey Excavating.

He was an active member of St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church where he served as a past Church Trustee.
Ray enjoyed hunting, spending time at the cabin, traveling, New York Yankee baseball, Pittsburgh Steeler football, and Tate Field Softball. He was an avid member of Chapel Hollow Hunting Club.

His greatest joys were his two sons, Lucas and Logan, whom he had the pleasure of coaching baseball at Newberry Little League for the Knight-Confer Funeral Home team, and at West End Babe Ruth for Sedco and Garden View Car Wash. He loved each of his players as if they were his own.

Ray was united in marriage to the former Lori Cardy on Sept. 12, 1987, by the Rev. John Sass, at Christ United Methodist Church in Franklin, Pennsylvania and together they shared 30 years of marriage.

Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are his two sons, Lucas Mahaffey (Amy), of Williamsport, and Logan Mahaffey, of Linden; his greatest love, granddaughter, Quinn Rae Mahaffey, of Williamsport; two sisters, Suzanne Plank (John), of Liberty and Brenda Freezer (Jeff), of Linden; and his brother and best friend, Tim Mahaffey (Cami Rooney), of Jersey Shore. Additionally, he is survived by his mother and father-in-law, Robert and Peggy Cardy, of Franklin; sisters-in-law, Holly Cardy, of Oil City, and Brenda Rhoades (Charles), of Hurricane, W. Va.; brother-in-law Robert Cardy Jr. (Robyn), of Garden Ridge, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Life to honor the life of Ray will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3 at St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church, 2101 Newberry St., Williamsport, with The Rev. Jay E. Jones, officiating. Burial will follow in Woodward Township Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 2 at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made to support the radio broadcasts at St. Johns-Newberry United Methodist Church, 2101 Newberry St., Williamsport, PA, 17701, or to City Softball League, 1879 Log Run Road, Williamsport, PA 17701.
