Mr. Robert W. Colley, Sr. 84

Mr. Robert W. Colley, Sr. of Montoursville went to be with his Lord 6/09/2018. He was home surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born July 21, 1933 the son of G. Walter and Martha Elizabeth (Forester) Colley.

Robert was a graduate of Williamsport High School class of 1951 where he was a varsity player on the Millionaires basketball team. He also used his expertise in photography by filming the football games for training purposes. After his high school graduation, Robert served in the U.S. Navy Reserves as he continued his academic and basketball career at Lycoming College. He was also a member of Kappa Delta Rho fraternity. He graduated in January of 1955 with a B.S. in Business. Following his graduation, he entered active duty and served aboard the USS Forrestal where he sailed with her on her maiden cruise to the Mediterranean in 1957. He also served on the Draft Board for Lycoming County.

Robert began his career at Hoyer’s the family business, Hoyer’s Photo Supply, Inc. that was established in 1935. At various times, he was joined in the business with all three of his sons. He became president of the company in 1975 and worked there until his retirement in 2013. His son Rob continued with Hoyer’s after his father’s retirement completing 83 years of continuing service. During this time, Robert, his employees and Hoyer’s were an institution in the fabric of the Williamsport community. All were known for their commitment to photography and to their many loyal customers. For many years, Robert and his wife, Nancy, enjoyed their winter home and friends in Naples, Florida.

Robert was a life member of the Texas Blockhouse Fish and Game Club and a member of Williamsport Country Club, the Ross Club, and the Wheel Club.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Dieffenbach) Colley, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage. He is also survived by his sons, Robert W. Colley, Jr. (Mary Rose) of Williamsport, Walter F. Colley (Kim) of Rochester, NY, step son T. Scott Frick (Marie) of New Cumberland, step daughter Susan Frick of Marine, IL and daughter in law Donna Colley. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren James Colley (Lori), Vanessa Colley, Sean Colley, Katherine Joseph (Anderson), Ezra Frick, Paige Colley, and step grandchildren Geoffrey Scheller and David Scheller (Whitney). He is also survived by great-grand children Rilynn James, Dylan, Nadia and John River. He will also be remembered by many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, David N. Colley.

Friends and family will gather June 15, 2018 at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville, PA from 5-8 pm. Burial in Montoursville Cemetery is private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org).
