Michael L. Opsomer, 74, of Hughesville, died Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Wolf Run Village.

Born December 4, 1951, in Napoleon, OH, he was a son of the late Oscar and Alice (Schippers) Opsomer. Michael was a 1970 graduate of Patrick Henry High School and attended Heidelberg College in Tiffin, OH. He was employed by CSX Transportation for over 50 years until his retirement in 2020.

Michael was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed cheering on his Cleveland teams: the Browns, Guardians, and Cavaliers, and he was also a dual Ohio State/Penn State fan. Family was the most important thing to Michael, and he cherished his time spent with his children and grandchildren, especially family beach trips to Wildwood, NJ and Ormand Beach, FL.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Holly Opsomer, of Hughesville; his children, Christopher (Kristin) Opsomer of Monroe, GA and Alison (Michael “Scott”) Reese of Hughesville; grandchildren: Evelyn Opsomer, Audrey Opsomer, Violet Opsomer, and Brady Reese; sister, Joanne Orosz of Berkeley, CA; many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Bella.

Besides his parents, Michael is also preceded in death by his brothers, Pete Opsomer and Ferdinand “Skip” Opsomer.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville.

At the request of the family services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to be made in Michael’s name to the Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach RD, Williamsport, PA 17701.
