John L. Lyons, 78, of Williamsport, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at UPMC of Williamsport. Born on September 26, 1947, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late William A. Riley and Lois L. (Larson) Riley. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his companion of 41 years, Ann Marie Fowler.
He was a proud graduate of Williamsport Area High School and served his country honorably as a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. John devoted many years of hard work to his career, retiring from Stroehmann Bakery as a machine mechanic.
John was also a member of American Legion Post 617, where he valued the fellowship and camaraderie that came with shared service and friendship. He found peace and happiness in the outdoors and loved being in nature. He was an avid kayaker and bicyclist, and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds in his yard. John also enjoyed golf, particularly traveling to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to play. In addition, John was a devoted NASCAR fan and football fan, and he especially enjoyed cheering for the Steelers.
John will be lovingly remembered by his friends, Julie and Bill Keller, as well as by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Services to honor John’s life will be held privately.
