James J. “Jay” Caprio, 85

James J. “Jay” Caprio, 85, of 30 Jim Bob Lane, Lock Haven, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Gatehouse Hospice at Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport.

Jay was born in Lock Haven on August 28, 1932, the son of the late Carmen and Lousia Soriero Caprio.

He was 1950 graduate of Immaculate Conception Catholic High School.

Jay was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War era.

He was married to Susan D. Caprio, whom preceded him in death in 2006.

Jay worked as a barber for over 72 years and was co-owner of Caprio’s Barber Shop of Lock Haven with his late brother, Buck, for 67 years.

He was member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish, attending St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Lock Haven Son’s of Italy, a member of the Lock Haven 40 & 8 and a past member of the Lock Haven Elk’s.

Jay was an avid guitarist, playing in multiple bands throughout his life. He enjoyed spending time at his property “on the mountain,” especially tending to his horses.

He is survived by his companion, Gloria Carter of Lock Haven; two sons, W. Carmen Caprio of Tennessee and Gino L. Caprio of Lock Haven; four daughters, Rose M. Caprio Bates of Philadelphia, Toni Ann Caprio of Tennessee, Carla J. Caprio of Bellefonte and Cathy Lucas of Avis; a brother, Michael A. (Judy) Caprio of Lock Haven; eleven grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, James Caprio; a grandson, Carmen Caprio; and nine siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 12 noon at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 3 E. Walnut St., Lock Haven, Pa 17745 with Rev. Father Joseph Orr officiating.

A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, Pa 17745 with a Son’s of Italy service being held at 7:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Lock Haven Catholic School Endowment Fund.
