Irvin Larue Houseknecht, age 86, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026, at Valley View Nursing Home, surrounded by the love of his family.
A lifelong resident of the Hughesville area, Irvin was a man who simply couldn’t sit still. For as long as his family can remember, he could be found tinkering in his garage, always ready to lend a hand, fix a problem, or lend a tool to family and friends.
Irvin was known for his sweet nature, his quick wit, and a heart as big as they come. He had an unmistakable sweet tooth, never turned down a good church dinner, and enjoyed relaxing with a cold Yuengling Lager or a glass of Ginger Brandy. Daily walks with his faithful dog, Trixie, were among his simplest and favorite pleasures. Above all else, Irvin’s life was defined by his incredible hard work and his devotion to his beloved wife, Lorna, whom he loved dearly through 69 wonderful years of marriage.
Irvin is survived by his beloved wife, Lorna Houseknecht of Hughesville; his son, Randie Houseknecht of Williamsport; his daughter, Lisa (Steve) Klein of Muncy; his grandson, Broc Klein (Ashley Carespodi) of Bloomfield, NJ; his granddaughter, Taylor (Sean) Poust of Picture Rocks; his great-grandson, John Walker Poust; and his beloved dog, Trixie.
Arrangements have been entrusted to McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville.
In keeping with Irvin’s wishes, no traditional formal service will be held. Instead, family and friends are invited to raise a glass and share memories at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 17th, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Silver Thorn Tavern. Refreshments will be provided.
Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at mccartythomas.com.
