Gail Opperman, 76

Gail Opperman, 76, of Muncy, died Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at UPMC Williamsport.

Born September 21,1949, in Ligonier, she was a daughter of the late Warren and Glodine (LaTour) McMullen. Gail’s journey in education began at Pennsbury High School, and she later pursued her passion for nursing by earning her Bachelor’s of Science Degree from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL and her nursing degree from The Mercer Hospital School of Nursing in Trenton, NJ. She dedicated her life to caring for others as an Emergency Room Nurse, a profession she cherished during her years with Susquehanna Health. Gail was also a devoted member of the Lycoming Valley Baptist Church in Montoursville, where she participated in Bible Study and Ladies Group for many years.

A quiet yet profound presence in the lives of her loved ones, Gail was married to her beloved husband, George Opperman Jr., for 56 years. She was a gifted and passionate home baker, known for her phenomenal Peanut Butter Fingers and her ability to tackle anything in the kitchen. Gail enjoyed her creative pursuits, having taught herself to sew and often crafted her own clothing. Above all, she loved being a mother and grandmother, pouring her heart into every moment spent with her family.

In her quiet strength and devotion, Gail embodied the heart of a Proverbs 31 woman, whose legacy of love, compassion, and faith will continue to inspire her family and all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, George Opperman, Jr. of Muncy; daughters, Jeanette (Joseph) Welliver of Williamsport, and Maria (John) Kubik of Bloomsburg; grandchildren: Sarah (James) Collins, Gabriel Kubik, and Violet Kubik; great-grandchildren: November Collins, James Collins III, and Ivory Collins; brother, Wayne (Raj Varma) McMullen of Wilmington, DE; sister, Nancy (Gary) Kepple of Allison Park; and sister-in-law, Jill Webster.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home – Hughesville, 557 E. Water St. with David Weitlich officiating.
