Ester Tordis McLaughlin, 92

Ester Tordis McLaughlin, 92, of Montoursville, died Monday, May 6, 2024, at her home. Born November 4, 1931, in Feda, Norway, she was a daughter of Syevert B. and Olga K. (Williamsen) Larsen. Ester married Gerald M. McLaughlin on November 12, 1950, and celebrated 73 years of marriage.

Ester was a member of Montoursville Presbyterian Church. She was a passionate knitter, making many Christmas stockings for family and friends, afghans for anyone who asked or needed one and lap blankets for the Presbyterian Church to donate to those going through difficult times. Even in the sweltering summer heat you could find Ester with a blanket in progress draped over her lap.

Ester could often be found at local garage sales collecting treasures and bargains to sneak in the house when Gerry wasn’t looking or helping at church rummage sales. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and knew many of the callers by name. Ester loved Pinochle and other card games, especially when she was winning.

But most importantly Ester enjoyed spending time with her family. She was famous for her candied yams and sticky buns and that adorable Norwegian accent.

Ester is survived by her husband; Gerald M. McLaughlin, of Montoursville; daughter, Diana M. (David) Bailey, of Williamsport; son, Dale A. (Kelly) McLaughlin, of Hughesville, 4 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Ester’s services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

The family respectfully suggest memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Montoursville.
