Donald E. Hammond, 85, of Williamsport, passed away on July 29, 2026, at home, surrounded by the comfort of his loving family.
Born on March 24, 1941, in Coudersport, he was a son of the late Ephriam Frank Hammond and Margariet May (Burton) Hammond. Donald was a proud graduate of Port Allegany High School and later earned a degree in typewriter repair from Williamsport Area Community College. He carried that practical education into a lifetime of steady employment, working at Grit Publishing, Stroehmann’s Bakery, Staiman’s Recycling, and J.J. Electrical.
He lived a long and meaningful life marked by hard work and devotion to family. Donald enjoyed a life filled with the outdoors and the activities he loved most. He found happiness in fishing, hunting, camping, and horseback riding, and he especially treasured time spent with his family. He loved all sports and volunteered his time in coaching football, basketball, and baseball.
Family was at the center of Donald’s life. He is survived by his daughters, Margo Emmil and her husband George, and Mary Stewart and her husband Bradley. He also leaves behind his sisters, Joyce Moore, Sarah Hammond, and Shirley Redmond. Donald was a proud grandfather to Steven F. Brown, Jr., Donald G. Brown and his wife Elaine, Lacey Emmil, Faydra Emmil, George M. Emmil, Jr. and his wife Erin, Eric G. Brown, Tod A. Brown, Hailey M. Stewart, and Alexis C. Stewart. His legacy continues through 22 great-grandchildren, Jordan Helm, Kira Emmil, Christopher Martin, III, Aliyah Martin, Elijah Martin, Steven Brown, Jr., Shaelynn Brown, Sidney Brown, Hailey Fravel, Josh Fravel, Jr., Donald Brown, Jr., Kacelynn Power, Maliki Emmil, Marques Williams, Cambria Emmil, George Emmil, III, Brayden Emmil, Breonna Emmil, Bentley Place, Blake W. Place, Ariella Place, and Hudson L. Stewart-Clark. He is also survived by three great-great-grandchildren, Quishae Johnson, QuianJohnson, and Qui’mari Johnson, as well as his great-grandson Theo Stewart-Clark, who is expected in January, and his great-great-grandson Asher Johnson, who is expected in October. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will cherish his memory.
Donald was preceded in death by his brothers Fred, Bob, Frank, Jim, and John Hammond, and his sister Reita Hart.
A memorial service to honor Donald’s life will be held 2 p.m. Monday, August 10, 2026, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport. A visitation will be held prior from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the funeral home.
