David Sidney “Sid” Bailey, Sr., 90, of Montoursville, died Dec. 28, 2022 at the home of his son.
He was born Feb. 4, 1932, in Williamsport, a son of the late Norman and Josephine (Rhea) Bailey.
Sid was a member of Little Harbor Hunting Club, West Branch Sports Hall of Fame, inducted into the Lycoming County Bowling Association in 1977and was a past president. He was a life member of the Moose Club #145, Keystone League and the Sons of Italy on East Fourth Street.
Sid was on the first Williamsport High School Wrestling Team and graduated in 1950. He was active in the City Fast Pitch League as a catcher and was on the winning championship team of 1954 with the Coalers as well as other teams like the 218 Bar. He continued with slow pitch into the over 50 league.
Sid also in the winter months enjoyed bowling and in 1963 and 1964 had bowled three 300 games. Even with that accomplishment he always expressed how impressed he was of John Wilcox bowling the second highest score ever recorded at that time.
Later in life Sid moved onto golf and at one time ran the concession at the White Deer Golf Course. He later became a member of the Williamsport Country Club.
Sid loved watching his grand children’s sporting events of baseball, football and wrestling. He enjoyed Montoursville High School Wrestling and then following the careers of Garret and Gavin Hoffman in college.
He was a tire salesman for almost 70 years working first at Frey’s Tire Shop, moving onto McCarthy Tires and finally retiring from Creek Side Tires. If you knew Sid you know he’s already hustling tires in heaven.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Patricia Moore Dugan; stepson, Jeffrey Dugan; daughter-in-law, Darri Horne Bailey; brother, Thomas E. Bailey; sister, Catherine McGinn; and nephew, Norman Bailey.
Surviving is his son, David S. Bailey, Jr. of Trout Run; stepsons, Michael (Karen) Dugan of Linden, Jeffrey’s wife (Beth) Dugan of Lewisburg, and Christopher (Missy) Dugan of Williamsport; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Spitler Funeral Home, Montoursville.
