Beryl L. Shuker, 98

Beryl L. Shuker, 98, years young, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024.

Beryl was born in Williamsport on April 12, 1925; she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Mabel Liddic. Beryl was the widow of Kenneth Williams (1966) and Wilton Shuker (2001). She was also predeceased by her five brothers, Edgar, Jr. “Puner”, Leonard, Harry, Walter “Dick”, and Kenneth Liddic and a sister, Eileen Wascher.

Beryl graduated from Williamsport High School in 1943 and attended several college-level secretarial courses which led her to a most prominent and successful life-long career. In 1952, Beryl began the first telephone answering service in Williamsport, the Williams Steno Service (1952-1972). She became the first woman to be elected as State President of the Telephone Answering Services Association.

In 1973, Beryl became a secretary to the Honorable Robert E. Woodside at Mette, Evans and Woodside in Harrisburg. She was extremely proud of this position and was instrumental in helping to publish the Judge’s Law Book and also his autobiography. Beryl worked with Judge Woodside until his passing in 2001.

She was an active member for over 50 years with a 46 year perfect attendance with the American Business Women’s Association; she held Past Presidents positions in both the Williamsport and Harrisburg regions. Beryl was President of the Soroptimist International Club in Williamsport.

Beryl enjoyed many activities including, golf, needlework, shopping, traveling in her motorhome (visiting every state but two) and especially enjoyed many times at the Judge’s summer home in OC,NJ with family and friends.

Beryl is survived by two children, Gary E. Williams and Carol A. Ryder; four grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of many wonderful nieces and nephews in PA, MD, and Ohio. She was also blessed with truly wonderful neighbors (forever grateful for Julie, Gene and Dollie’s faithful caring) and so many dear friends’ she all dearly loved.

A funeral service to honor Beryl’s life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 3, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street Williamsport. Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at Sanders.
