Albert Marcus Stopper, 90

Albert Marcus Stopper, 90, of Williamsport, joined his beloved wife in heaven on Friday October 19, 2018 at the Gatehouse in Divine Providence Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Albie was born February 4, 1928 in Williamsport, Lycoming County. He was the son of the late Albert C. and Anna (Deitrick) Stopper. On June 16, 1951 he married the love of his life, Virginia Ann Bower, at Saint Boniface Church in Williamsport. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before her death March 5, 2014.

Albie Stopper was a 1944 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. He served as a Corporal in the Army as an expert radio operator using Morse code. He was honorably discharged from the Army in July 1947 and began his career as a roofer and then sheet metal worker. He worked in the industry for 30 years.

Stopper enjoyed numerous activities outside of his home including playing basketball, horseshoes, cards, marbles, bowling, and dancing. He attended every sports event and activity that his children and grandchildren were involved with throughout the years no matter the distance needed for travel. Activities often included baseball, basketball, tennis, gymnastics, soccer, football, and swimming events. Albie was a huge sports enthusiast and never missed watching or cheering for Notre Dame, Philadelphia Eagles, or the New York Yankees.

Surviving are a brother Jimmy Stopper (Eleanor) of Williamsport and his 5 children including a son Denny Stopper (Margie), a daughter Debbie Stopper, a daughter Cindy Datres (Lynn), a son David Stopper (Suzanne), and daughter Lisa Stopper-Gee (Hal). His 16 grandchildren Aimee Born (Ted), Stephen Stopper, Lindsey Stopper, Kelli Datres-McCarthy (Kevin), Kory Datres (Carnie), Kerri Jacobson (Curtis), Kyle Datres, Michael Stopper, Brian Stopper, Marcus Stopper, Samantha Stopper, Zachary Stopper, Kayla Gee, Derek Gee, Cassie Gee, and Tyler Gee. He also had 4 great-grandchildren: Rhett Datres, Hagen Datres, Tess Datres, and Kaylie McCarthy.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Jean (Ray Bastian).

Msg. McGough will hold a memorial service at 10:00am at Saint Boniface Church on Monday October 29, 2018. A luncheon will follow the ceremony at Saint Lawrence parish hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to The Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital in Williamsport.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Williamsport Hospital and The Gatehouse in Divine Providence Hospital for the loving care of their father. He will be loved and missed by everyone who knew him as Poppy.
