Americanization school or “night school,” as it is more generally known, will begin Tuesday evening in the Washington School building, under the instruction of W.W. Stiber, who has been principal of the night school for about 20 years, and his assistant, W.T. McClaren, who has been principal.

The school will continue for about six months at the Washington School every Tuesday and Thursday evening from seven o’clock to nine o’clock.

The course is given entirely free of any expense to the students. The government supplies the books.

This is the 25th year for the night school in the city. Many of the persons who enroll are foreigners who preparing themselves for citizenship in this country, while others are interested in the fundamentals which are taught and which may help them in their trades.

The first thing the school does is to aid the foreign members of the class to obtain their “certificate of landing.” At the end of the course in the spring, diplomas which certify that the student has been drilled in questions of government which appear in the naturalization are given, and the course accept them if the applicant can produce witnesses that he is rightfully entitled to the diploma.

Anyone over the age of 16 may attend the night school. Usually there are between 50 to 60 students each year.

Besides studies about government the school offers courses on different forms of English, the most popular being writing English in business style.

The instructors stress writing and English, and cater to the young men who need fundamentals in the developing of trades.
