For 74 years, the sound of Beagles bawling could be heard at the non-profit Lycoming County Beagle Club. Nestled in the hills of Muncy, PA, the club spans 145 acres with 4 enclosed running grounds. In June of 1952, the club was born from humble beginnings. Nine passionate founding members pooled their own hard-earned money to establish the club as a home for their shared love of beagling.
Today, the club endeavors to carry that torch passed forward by continuing to promote and better the breed through breeding, training, and conducting field trials held several times throughout the year. The club is a member of the Iroquois Beagle Gundog Association (IBGA), Pennsylvania Beagle Gundog Federation (PBGF), and Northeast Beagle Gundog Federation (NEBGF). These sanctioned trials draw handlers from all over, showcasing the incredible tracking instincts, discipline, and stamina of these great dogs.
The Beagle Club will also, for the first time, be hosting a Basset Hound Trial on Saturday, Sept. 19th, and Sunday, Sept. 20th.
Our youth are the lifeblood of the sport. Without a new generation to pass the leash to, these storied traditions risk fading away. The Lycoming County Beagle Club actively strives to foster a love for the outdoors that can endure for generations to come. To support this mission, the club makes regular contributions to the Junior Beagler program. This hands-on program teaches children how to properly handle, care for, train, and run hounds in both competitive field trials and traditional hunting events. To encourage this next generation of outdoorsmen and women, junior memberships are readily open to youth aged 10-18.
In another first for the Club, the Club is currently planning to host its first-ever Youth Day. This event is only made possible through the generous contributions and shared effort of local sportsmen, community organizations, local businesses, and individuals. The Club hopes to foster not only interest in Beagling but also awareness of the opportunities available to all in Pennsylvania. The Youth Day will feature live beagling demonstrations, where kids can watch the hounds work a trail firsthand, alongside structured shooting events and firearm safety instruction. A variety of other fun outdoor activities will occur throughout the afternoon, and the club will provide a complimentary lunch.
Because we want to ensure a safe, high-quality, and hands-on experience for every participant, space for this landmark event will be strictly limited to 50 youths and will require pre-registration.
