Resolutions

I always have great intentions. But I already gave up on those resolutions. Perhaps next year I will join that gym. I am okay with my current shape. No worries. My new XXL Cotopaxi fleece helps me look thin. Happy New Year, boys and girls. Yes. I am looking forward to telling more tales in 2026. I am extremely honored and grateful for this part-time gig. Special thanks to Jimmy and Steph for allowing me to partake. It’s hard to believe that I have been with the WEBB from the beginning. Maybe 24 years. Crazy. I thoroughly enjoy the many conversations with our local teams and athletes. Sharing their accomplishments and amazing stories is something I take pride in. I always play fair and do my very best. It keeps me in the loop.

The feedback is grand. I can’t begin to tell you how great it feels when someone gives me some love. You wouldn’t believe the number of shouts each week. It’s almost embarrassing. I constantly hear from all walks of life. A few are young. Most are old. And I believe that everyone is registered to vote. 63,000 households. No. I didn’t study creative writing or journalism. I rarely went to class, but I had lots of fun. I got a bachelor’s after sixteen semesters, and English was my worst. I had absolutely no confidence, and it was a constant fight. I vividly remember those long and uncomfortable hours of writer’s block. I guess that is why I am so appreciative when someone says I ENJOYED YOUR ARTICLE, SPENCE. I usually thank them with a hug.

No. I do not write these columns behind a computer or on a fancy laptop. I am a rather busy person and more MOBILE. All of these tales are typed on my iPhone. I need an upgrade. My index finger and thumb hurt. I struggle with deadlines. I sometimes have to pull over and write. Some call it procrastination. I prefer to say it is a minor delay in motivation. Life will get in the way. I have been better lately. I rarely leave my lovely editor hanging. The new medication is helping. But a part-time scribe is never late. Nor is he ever early. His copy shows up when he is ready.

My topics vary, but they usually have something to do with sports. If I am not writing about an outstanding team or individual, I tend to focus on fishing, hiking, or golf. My son Jensen is now 17. Dude? He is my pride and joy. He stars on this page quite often. Jensen is a great-looking kid, and he is involved. I enjoy sharing our tales with our experiences with basketball and the great outdoors. He is now playing the harmonica and guitar. My man also loves fishing like his pop. Jensen is at a great age. My lovely bride and I make a solid squad. But she doesn’t like the spotlight, so I never use her name. We call her Teach. She is a character. Several have encouraged us to start a pod. Maybe someday. Who knows.

Back to grind next week. I was asked to give a presentation for a few local organizations. Scary. I am excited about the opportunity. I never shy away from a crowd. I will fill you in soon. I would like to wish all of the area my very best. I have no major plans in 2026, but I am excited to sign on for another year with Sporting Matters with Spence. Cheers
