Peanuts, Popcorn, and Lumberjacked Cream Ale

Well, baseball fans, it’s the most wonderful time of the year at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field. The Williamsport Crosscutters will be throwing out the first pitch of their 26th season. Wow, how time flies by when you’re enjoying those peanuts, popcorn, and Cracker Jacks at one of the best baseball venues in our Nation.

My good friend Lou Hunsinger and I still go to the old ballpark that has received a Major League makeover, even when there’s no game going on. We just sit there in the stands of the empty stadium, talking about the history of baseball in Williamsport while we take in the beautiful green grass and perfectly manicured field. It is a very peaceful and quiet setting.

A silent ballpark will not be the case for the season opener on June 4th as Cutters’ VP of Marketing and Public Relations, Gabe Sinicropi, and his right-hand man,  Rhashan West-Bey, get the party started. Rhashan is, of course, the Vice President of Smiles. Vice President GM Doug Estes will be the quiet one behind the scenes, ensuring all the diamond details are taken care of for another season.

A tip of my Webb Weekly cap with the American Flag on the side to the trio and all at Crosscutter land that provides one of the best entertainment values possible. I’m sure the 2024 season will be packed with family fun, giveaways, and community involvement. The ballgame is just part of the great show guaranteed to make you cheer, laugh, and appreciate all that is going on.

The MLB Draft League affiliate’s first event of the season is Meet the Cutters Night on June 2nd. Admission is free, and there will also be free hot dogs. It’s a fun meet-and- greet gathering to take the kids to. They can even get players’ autographs.

Speaking of those delicious Country Store hot dogs, they will also be free every Monday night for Hot Dog Night. Now, there is a tasty ballpark promotion.

There will be a new feature to help wash it down, which will be provided by the good folks at Bullfrog Brewery, Lumberjacked Cream Ale. The good news is it will be at the  stadium for every home game, not just Hot Dog Night. You will have to purchase the adult ice-cold beverage, which has got me thinking about good old Genesee Cream Ale. However, I’m sure it’s even better.

A couple of other highlights to look forward to: Saturdays will be those fantastic fireworks that light up the night sky. The Cutters will again honor our local military heroes with their Military Salute presented by EQT and UPMC. This will take place during every home game. I encourage you to nominate your military hero all season long. The program even gets that veteran or active military person on the field to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. For more info, see page 28.

There’s an amazing schedule of events to be found every game at Historic Bowman Field. They can all be found on our pages each week. We are a proud sponsor and  supporter of Williamsport Crosscutter Baseball. Now for the part baseball fans look forward to with my first column of every season.

With the Webb Weekly arriving on different days in certain parts of our area, I want to give everyone the opportunity to win. So, I will take (2) winners on Wednesday and (2) winners on Thursday for our first 2024 Grand Slam Giveaway.

This includes four tickets to the game of your choosing and Cutters Cash to have dinner and a drink at the ballpark. A Country Store hot dog and a Lumberjacked Cream Ale  sounds pretty good about right now.

Simply be one of the first to text or call me at 570-337-0755 and identify yourself as Cutters Grand Slam Giveaway, and you can win.  Please remember, two winners on Wednesday and two winners on Thursday. I wish you good luck and great baseball.

God Bless America.
