Williamsport Sun: March 12, 1926 – Library Opening at Montgomery Attracts Crowd

Visitors to the Montgomery Public Library building at the official opening yesterday totaled 225, according to the official registry kept by the recording secretary, Hilda Piatt, the assistant librarian. Mrs. Benjamin Shelley reports that out of this number, no less than 100 used the library on the opening day, taking out books from the 3,000 volumes available for the use of the public. A special sum of money has been set aside and will make possible the purchase of books every month.

Not only is Montgomery justly proud of its new library facility located on the third floor of the attractive re-modeled building once the old First National Bank but of the new Red Cross facilities on the second floor.

These rooms are rented from the library association and are equipped for the building of three clinics. The first a child health clinic with a graduate nurse in charge, will be held every Tuesday afternoon from 1 until 3 o’clock. The babies will be measured and weighed, and instruction given.

A monthly clinic with a physician in charge will be held for a thorough examination although the monthly clinics have not been announced.

In addition to the clinic feature regular office hours will be held by the nurse. The Red Cross rooms will be open daily from 8:30 until 9:30 each morning and from 1 until 2 in the afternoon.

The Montgomery chapter of the Red Cross has in common with the Montgomery Public Library association the fact that it is self-supporting, both being entirely maintained by the people of the borough and immediate vicinity.
