The History of Flags to be discussed at the Taber Museum

The Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society will be hosting Rudy Mummey at its Coffee Hour on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 10 a.m. He will be discussing the fascinating history of flags. The talk coincides with Veterans Day. The program will be held in the Community Room of the Taber Museum. It is free and open to the public.

Rudy Mummey was born and raised in Hughesville. A graduate of Lycoming College and Bucknell University, he taught in the Lewisburg Area High School district for 39 years. The first flag he owned was one he himself made in sixth grade — a recreation of the flag flown at Bunker Hill. Since that time, he has accumulated over 1,700 flags and he routinely flies flags on two special stands in his front yard, often as many as eight at a time. Flags from around the world as well as historically significant flags are in his collection.

Social distancing is suggested, and the use of face masks are required unless the participant is fully vaccinated. The Lecture Series is underwritten by the Woodcock Foundation for the Appreciation of the Arts.

Please contact the museum at 570.326.3326 or visit our website http://www.tabermuseum.org for updates on programming at the Museum. Parking is available behind the Museum or on the street.
