A memorial was dedicated to the veterans of all wars who gave their lives in the service of their country, in Lutcher and Moore Park, South Williamsport yesterday morning. A parade proceeded the services in the park.

The memorial, a large shaft of sandstone was made possible by the Citizens Band of South Williamsport and the citizens of the community. Several hundred school children carrying flags took part in the parade, the pupils of the first and second grades being transported in automobiles. Veterans of the Civil, Spanish America and World wars, the Citizens Band, and the drum corps from the Howard Kahler Post. Veterans of Foreign Wars marched in the parade along with borough officials and members of the fire department with their new motor driven apparatus.

A platform had been erected in the park. Seated on the platform were: J. Fred Foresman, H.W. Whitehead, the Rev. R.G. Bannen, William Moffett and B.F. Harmon, member of the Reno Post, Commander Wilder of the Howard Kahler post, Walter E. Ritter, Burgess William E. Williams and V.C. Luppert, chief marshal of the parade.

The ceremonies were opened by a selection by the band followed by a rendition of “To the Colors” by the Howard Kahler Post drum corps and the singing of “America” by Burgess Williams. A prayer was offered by Bannen. Comrade Moffett unveiled the monument. Commander Wilder spoke briefly commending the band and the citizens for their part in securing the memorial. Judge Whitehead introduced Walter E. Ritter, who made the address. Charles W. Noll, chairman in the committee in charge of the events of the day told of how the memorial was secured and then presented it to the borough. It was accepted by Burgess Williams.
