Safe Kids PA Donated 40 Books to Primary Schools to Promote Pedestrian Safety

In an effort to further promote safe walking habits, the Lycoming County chapter of Safe Kids Pennsylvania donated 40 copies of “Clifford Takes a Walk” to Williamsport Area School District kindergarten classrooms and primary school libraries today.

Each classroom and library across the district will receive two copies of the children’s book that teaches the rules of pedestrian safety through Norman Bridwell’s famous Clifford the Big Red Dog and his kid companion, Emily Elizabeth.

The organization’s donation is funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant.

“One of the topics we cover is pedestrian safety and our current project is titled ‘Walk Safe Lycoming County,’ ” Safe Kids PA states in a provided letter to educators. “Every day in the United States, more than 40 children are hit by vehicles while walking, according to Safe Kids Worldwide. The goal of our project is to reduce pedestrian crashes in our county.”

Safe Kids PA provides free resources and in-person or virtual programming throughout Lycoming County. Its members include professionals, educators and various agencies across the county, such as the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Lycoming County Coroner’s Office, STEP/Head Start, UPMC, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, 4H, the Williamsport Bureau of Fire and the Highway Safety Network, among others.
