Hope all is well, sports fans. Several items that need your attention. Last week we talked about a local hoopster who was looking to secure a spot. Well good things happen to those who put in the work. Alize Johnson recently signed a 4.1 million dollar deal with the Brooklyn Nets. He is under contract for the next three seasons. Unbelievable. You can’t make it up.
I also wanted to give Williamsport’s Gary Brown some major love. GB battled cancer and is now coaching with the Wisconsin Badgers. The former PSU and NFL running back has spent the past few years mentoring with the Dallas Cowboys. I am thrilled to hear that GB is back on the sidelines. I plan on reaching out to him for a story soon.
Several of the local ball teams are gearing up. Opening day is approaching. Kudos to my friend Mike Fox and the good folks at WALL. They have done some great things and are really getting the word out. Mike and his crew have been doing some major fundraising. They are getting creative by using several online platforms. Little League baseball is outstanding. I enjoy it even if it gets in the way of my fishing.
It is amazing to think where we were at this point last year. The entire Commonwealth was on a temporary lockdown. Well, unless you were out buying beer, gathering ammo or playing the daily lottery. Governor Tom was faced with a very difficult situation. I was totally OK with being non-essential. Jensen and I got to spend a lot of quality time together. We fished for 37 straight days, and we absolutely slayed them. I enjoy looking at our pictures from last April. It was incredible. The kid and I haven’t been out much in 2021. Work is full throttle and Jensen is back to in person.
I’ve mentioned to you before that I am one of North Central PAs biggest fans. Seriously. What’s not to love about the 570? This place is absolutely splendid, and this beautiful area is the perfect backdrop for an outdoor enthusiast like me.
Lycoming County provides hundreds of exceptional fishing opportunities. We are so blessed with several different types of water to target all kinds of species. I am still waiting on a call from our Visitors Bureau. Seriously guys. I believe I can help. The LC Chronicles has 2,500 more subscribers.
I am still a fly-fishing novice, and I have only been at this since the introduction of COVID. I used the time away from work and the extra funds from former President Trump to start my new obsession. I have been fishing for all my life and I am what they call a master chucker. I finally caved and gave the bug throwing a shot. I haven’t looked back since. I enjoy dry fly fishing, and I am starting to get the hang of this nymphing. I know I have a long way to go, but I am slowly gaining some confidence. I snuck out the other day and landed seven. I posted a video that is now trending.
I normally spend most of my time on Lycoming. It is where I do about 92% of my fishing. A few of my favorite spots are just a short drive or walk from the homestead. I do my very best to fish them year-round, but unfortunately, my expeditions have been non-existent. I wouldn’t mind going back to a shutdown. I usually head out alone or go with my son Jensen. Fishing is an individual thing, and it serves as my zen. Why does one travel when you can routinely catch gorgeous fish so close to home?
These continue to be scary times, kids. Mask up and get those vaccinations. Everyone needs to spread more love. Rise to the occasion friends. Wash your hands. Maintain your distance. Please stay safe. Stay calm. And if you must, continue to fish alone. Cheers.
