A pair of bowlegs, which carry the legs of Henry Brewer of 430 Erie Avenue, aged sixteen appeared to get him into a peck of trouble which may end in his being sent to the reformatory. Brewer was charged before Judge Whitehead in juvenile court with having stolen papers off the porches on Elmira Street. Several people having stated that they knew Brewer by his bowlegs. The case was continued until 4 o’clock this afternoon.

Walter Vining claims to have seen Brewer remove papers from several porches about 7:30 o’clock, Sunday morning, January 2. He stated that he knew Brewer and was sure it was him because of his bowlegs. Jacob Brookheart of State Street who also carries Sunday papers, stated that some time ago he had some papers stolen from his wagon while he was standing at Willow Street and that he saw two boys remove the papers and that one was extremely bowlegged, Tom Rearick, another paper carrier stated that Brewer had confessed to removing the papers and had paid for them.

Brewer and a number of witnesses stated that he had slept until 9 o’clock in the morning that the papers were missed by the Vining boy. He stated that he knew that the paper train was late, although he did not get out of bed until 9 o’clock. Judge Whitehead called Brewer to the front of the court room and stated that boys were punished severely for taking papers. He dismissed the boy but later found that Brewer had been before him on various occasions and ordered him brought to court at 4 o’clock this afternoon.
