Gazette and Bulletin: November 19, 1949 – Sunday Movies: to Show or Not Show, That is the Question

There may be movies Sunday night, then again maybe not. City and two vicinity theater advertisements indicated there would be, but some theater managers weren’t sure.

When contacted last night, most of the theater managers were reluctant to make positive statements that the movies would be on tomorrow night. One theater was certain enough though, to announce Sunday movies in this way:

“Complying with the request of two-thirds of the City of Williamsport who voted “yes” for Sunday movies, we are pleased to announce this outstanding attraction commencing tomorrow, Sunday, November 20.”

Other theaters have billed pictures for tomorrow without advertising comment.

The indication in most quarters stems from a court order sighed by Judge Charles S. Williams for the request of all ballots of the voting of Montgomery Borough. A petition was received from three qualified electors of Montgomery charting fraud or error in the computation of the votes cast in the borough.
