Over The Edge

Rappel spots are limited for Over the Edge 2019— the daring urban adventure fundraiser benefitting the YWCA Northcentral PA, River Valley Regional YMCA and Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation. Slated for October 26th at the William Hepburn High Rise, volunteers who raise or contribute at least $1,000 for either the YWCA, the YMCA, or the WASDEF Foundation will experience Williamsport’s longest possible rappel of 105 feet.

“Rappelling from a 9-story building is an incredibly empowering experience,” said Anna Thompson, YWCA Communications & Development Director who rappelled last year during Over the Edge. “First you take in this incredible aerial view of our city, then you gather your courage to literally step into the air.” According to Jessica Probst, YMCA Development Director, safety is the number one priority of Over the Edge. “While rappelling may seem intimidating, especially for those afraid of heights, professional staff with rigging, ropes and climbing experience travel to Williamsport to set-up all Over the Edge logistics.” During the event, members of the U.S. Army Recruiter’s office support rappelers and man the ropes, providing support and encouragement, Probst added.

Participants are encouraged to get creative with their fundraising. “You don’t just have to ask your friends and family for money,” said Greg Hayes, Education Foundation Executive Director. “Invite your friends over for a poker tournament with proceeds supporting your non-profit. Walk your neighbors’ dogs or have a yard sale. There are many ways to raise the funds.”

“Our agencies will walk hand-in-hand through the fundraising process with each participant,” Hayes said. “We will provide tips, special opportunities and unique ideas so that fundraisers will be excited to raise money to support our community.”
