Williamsport Flute Choir Presents An American Tapestry

The Williamsport Flute Choir is excited to present an afternoon of fun and flutes as they celebrate the spirit of America in a Free Concert at 2 pm on Saturday, May 4th at Christ Episcopal Church on the corner of 4th and Mulberry Streets in Williamsport.

The group was founded in 2013 and is under the direction of Rick Coulter, features 12 flutists from around the area.

Coulter has been an active member of the Williamsport music community for many years and has marveled at the music offerings in the area.

“Williamsport is blessed with a diverse collection of music makers,” says Coulter. “The Williamsport Flute Choir is another addition to the list of high-quality ensembles making their home in our community.”

The concert on May 4th weaves together medleys from iconic American movies, hymns, and military tributes. They’ve added an “old world” classic from Vivaldi, just to change things up a bit. Coulter likes the variation.

“For me, the real joy of this concert is the creative nature of the arrangements. The music comes from a wide range of genres, each with a special treatment guaranteed to capture and keep the audience’s attention,” he quotes.

Highlights range from Vivaldi’s “Spring” from “The Four Seasons” to a Latin piccolo trio of “If I Only Had A Brain” and others. WFC board member and flutist, Jamie Chambers is also excited for the event.

“This concert is going to be the most, “audience friendly” concert, we have done. The choir members have had a blast learning this collection of music because we are familiar with all of the pieces,” she says. “So often, with groups like ours, a lot of classical and intricate works are played – while they sound beautiful, they are not usually pieces that many of the attending audience members know.”

Chambers hopes people will be thrilled and will say, “hey, I know this one!” She encourages people to come an enjoy and afternoon of musical memories.

Members of community groups like the Williamsport Flute Choir do it for the love of it. The word “amateur” is French for “the love of….” and it’s certainly true for the members of this group.

WFC president, Corinne Giacobbi feels blessed to be part of such a great group.

“Playing in the flute choir has given me more confidence and I have grown so much since I started performing with the group 6 years ago,” she says.

This concert will feature flautists Mary Ann Bauer, Jamie Chambers, Jennifer Devore, Corinne Giacobbi, Lucy Henry, Robin Knauth, Alicia Little, Michele Mach, Nancy Moff, Peggy Morehart, Melanie Scaife, and Sheri Yingling, with Coulter at the baton.

The group is always open to new members and anyone interested can find the group on Facebook or talk to a member after the concert on May 4th. The group will begin its new season in September.

Admission to the concert is Free, but as a 501(c)(3) organization, the groups welcomes donations at the door. Enjoy a bit of American nostalgia on May 4th at 2 pm with the Williamsport Flute Choir.
