That Time Again

It’s time for another round of ‘things to do.’ As of this writing, it’s currently somehow sleeting and snowing at the same time, but I swear spring has to be on the horizon. Hopefully, by the time you are reading this, we have hit some nicer weather.

There is a lot happening in the area this weekend, so let’s get to it.

First up, The Community Theatre League’s “Sprouts” presents “The Enchanted Bookshop” by Todd Wallinger, and Directed by Caryn Rehem. Showtimes are April 12 & 13 at 7:30 p.m. and April 14 at 2:00 p.m. “A Likely Story” looks like any other used bookstore during the day, but at night — magic happens. The characters in the books come to life, and long to help the scatterbrained owner save their struggling store – but they can’t be seen by human eyes. When a pair of smugglers comes looking for a stolen necklace, the characters are torn – can they help, but potentially disappear forever, or can they defeat the crooks without being seen? Tickets: $13 Adults, $10 Students/Youth, or $40 Family 4-Pack. You can find tickets at http://www.ctlshows.com/bookshop or by calling 570-327-1777. This looks like a great show for the entire family!

Saturday is a busy day in the area. If you read last week’s cover story, you know that there is a Community Clean Up and 3-on-3 basketball tournament happening to benefit the Kids United Playground project. You can get all the details on that in last week’s paper, but the activities start at 8:00 a.m. at Steven’s Elementary.

You can also join the Lycoming County SPCA for their Paws Run — the area’s only dog-friendly run/walk! Registration is now available online at pawsrun.com. Pre-registration is $25 for an individual or $40 for a family of 2-3 participants and closes Wednesday, April 10th at 12 p.m. Day-of registration is $30 for an individual or $45 for a family. All proceeds benefit the Lycoming County SPCA. The run/walk is Saturday and registration opens at 7:30 a.m. at the South Williamsport Community Park.

UPMC Susquehanna is hosting their ‘Building Blocks for Healthy Kids’ event on Saturday from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Step by step, you can lay a strong foundation that will help your kids thrive—and we can help! During this event at the UPMC Health Plan Connect Center, a health coach can help you develop a plan for better health. You’ll get information on:

* Which vaccines your child needs and when.
* How to teach your child good oral hygiene habits.
* How to manage your child’s asthma, allergies, and more!

Enjoy FREE giveaways and face painting or balloon art, and enter to win a $100 prize pack!

The 6th annual Mom Prom hits on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Genetti. Lou had all the details last week on that also.

The City’s Easter Egg Hunt is Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Brandon Park. Lou has all the details on page 8.

Of course, Antioch also has their GIGANTIC Easter Egg Hunt this weekend too, you can find all the information for that on page 6.

If you have a wedding coming up, there is also a Bridal Expo at Herman & Luther’s on Sunday from noon-3:00 p.m.
And if you are still bored…have you considered trying to eat something ridiculously hot??

Did you dig that segue?

So as y’all know, I’ve gotten it in my head that I want to work my way up to trying to eat the World’s Hottest Chocolate Bar.

So far I’ve done the World’s Hottest Ramen, ghost pepper tortilla chips, scorpion pepper hot sauce, Buffalo Wild Wings’ Blazin’ wings and the Choco Challenge. If you are curious, I filmed the chips and the chocolate and you can check out those videos on our Facebook page.

So far I’m handling each step well (I think so anyway). Next up is another hot sauce. I’ll have a special guest with me when I try this one as Steve and I try CaJohns Fiery Foods ‘Black Mamba 6’ hot sauce. This beast comes in at a raging 6 million on the Scoville Heat Scale, which is twice as hot as the Choco Challenge. Keep an eye out for that video coming this week!
