Playground Safety

Now that spring is here, and summer is right around the corner visiting a local playground in a community park is a great way for children to try new things and be outdoors. Please keep these tips in mind when visiting your local playground this spring

• Supervise kids using playground equipment
• Check for potential hazards like broken equipment and dangerous surfaces like asphalt, concrete, tree stumps or gravel
• Teach children that pushing, shoving or crowding can be very dangerous
• Dress appropriate for the playground. Remove anything that could get caught and pose a hazard like scarves, jewelry or clothing with drawstrings
• Choose the right play area based on your child’s age because little kids play different than big kids
• Report any safety hazards to the organization in charge of the playground area

As the weather warms up and trips to the park become more frequent, remember safety first. Now get out there and have a great spring!
