Engaging Landlords to Help Homeless Individuals

Local landlords can help end homelessness in Lycoming County by participating in the YWCA Northcentral PA’s new Housing Location Services.

Informational sessions for interested landlords are on set for Monday, May 21 with sessions at 2-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. at the YWCA, 815 W. Fourth St. To register for one of the sessions, visit http://www.ywcawilliamsport.org.

Housing Location Services connects local landlords with qualified individuals, who may have, in the past, had a poor rental history, said Tara Day-Ulrich, Co-Program Director.

“The landlords who choose to work with us will be helping us provide a second chance for our clients to have independent, sustainable lives,” said Day-Ulrich.

Information sessions will teach local landlords how they will benefit from leasing apartments and homes to individuals through this service.

Before qualifying, Housing Location Services, all Liberty House clients will complete their Renter’s Certification and advanced budgeting education. Only then will clients be able to receive financial assistance for security deposits and up to three months rent. Once a client is in their apartment, there are mandatory home visits from case managers who will help keep clients on track.

The Housing Location Services program will be open to other organizations that provide services to people experiencing homelessness. The providers can refer their clients to Liberty House staff to find housing through the program.

For more information about the program, contact Day-Ulrich at tday@ywcawilliamsport.org or 570-326-4736 ext. 117.
