Dog-Friendly 2.5 and 5-Mile Run/Walk to Benefit Lycoming County SPCA

Saturday, April 14th, the Lycoming County SPCA and title sponsors Debra S. Schneider, CFP, of Wells Fargo Advisors and Dr. Amy Phillips of Wolf Run Veterinary Clinic will hold the SPCA’s annual Paws Run at the South Williamsport Park. The popular pet-friendly event will feature a 2.5-mile run/walk and 5-mile run, as well as a most inspiring Pet Comeback Story and prizes. A record-breaking 400 people participated with over 150 dogs in 2017, raising money to help homeless and abused animals for the privately funded shelter.

The event will utilize a course that loops through the South Williamsport Community Park and Little League International. One significant hill exists on the course, but with a view well worth the climb. Participants may choose to race in the 2.5 run/walk or 5-mile run. Prizes will be awarded to top male and female finishers in the 2.5-mile walk, as well as the 2.5-mile run and the 5-mile run. Top pet/human teams in the 2.5-mile and 5-mile run will also be awarded. Falcon Race Timing will professionally chip time the event.

Participants may register online at pawsrun.com or at the Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport.

Pre-registration closes on April 11th at noon. Race-day registrations are accepted, beginning at 7:30 a.m. The race kicks off at 9:00 a.m. and will be held rain or shine.

One of the highlights of the event is the selection of the most inspiring Pet Comeback Story. Owners of pets who have come back from adversity are encouraged to submit their inspirational story at the event website, pawsrun.com. All entries will be judged by the Race Committee, and winners will be announced at the race awards ceremony. The stories are heart-warming elements that personify the spirit of the run/walk. Raffle prizes and post-recovery treats will round out the day’s events.
Paws Run and fundraising events like it support the Lycoming County SPCA’s mission to protect domestic animals across the county as well as to educate the community about animal safety-related issues for residents of all ages. The shelter also helps to match homeless animals with people who will be a good fit for each animal’s unique situation.
