Adult Prom – A Dance For 65 Roses Slated for Saturday

By Jeffrey Alllen Federowicz

Dust off those dancing shoes because its prom time for grown-ups.

The third annual Adult Prom A Dance For 65 Roses, a benefit for Cystic Fibrosis, will take place from 7:00-11:00 p.m. this Saturday at Farrington Place, 416 West Third St. downtown Williamsport.

The reference to 65 Roses is a moniker designed to make it easier for children to pronounce Cystic Fibrosis.

“Come prepared to have a great time,” said Dan Carpenter, head of the committee for the popular fundraiser. “Both of the years we’ve had the dance we had people tell us they were amazed by the amount of money we raised, what fun they had, and how they were very tired from all the dancing.”

Tickets for the Adult Prom are $45 and $55 and include admission, hors d’oeuvres, dancing, a silent auction, photo opportunists at the photo booth, and an open bar.

“We’ll have a couple of kegs on tap and a selection of liquors and mixers,” Carpenter said. “Guests will have a chance to bid on some really cool items we have in our silent auction. Best of all, the dance will be a fun night out while helping a great cause.”

A few of the items up for bid include jewelry, car detailing, swag bag from the Wilkes-Barre Penguins, Crosscutters tickets, art, hotel stays, a Boomer Esiason signed football, and a signed lithograph from Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Carpenter noted although planning and hosting the dance is a lot of work, seeing the crowd having a good time and being able to donate a sizable sum to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation makes it all worth it.

“People that attend the event seem to do so for one of two reasons. Because they know someone with Cystic Fibrosis and want to be able to help, or they enjoy a great night out, and this gives them a chance to do so while helping a great cause.”

Although it’s not mandatory, guests are encouraged to dress up.

“I’m so thankful for Farrington Place because they have so much to offer,” he said. “Since the venue has three separate spaces we use each space differently. The front room we use for hors d’oeuvres and socializing. The middle room is where we have the silent auction and the photo booth. In the back room is party central with dancing and music.”

Carpenter’s business, DC Entertainment, will serve as DJ for the evening with music meant for dancing.

“If you missed your high school prom you should check out this one. We often get people that message us saying they never went to the prom for whatever reason, and they want to change that by coming to our Adult Prom,” Carpenter said. “Many of those same people came back last year and were the first ones buying tickets for this year’s dance.”
