An All-American Salute to Service

An All-American Salute to Service

A Webb Weekly salute and thank you to our veterans. Without all these special men and women who have put everything on the line, we would not have the liberty and freedoms we are so very blessed with. What began during the Revolutionary War has needed the constant selfless commitment of the United States armed forces to first earn, protect, and defend our one Nation under God for over 250 years.

It is often overlooked or maybe not understood that our Nation has been at war or conflict since its founding. There are only about a handful of years this hasn’t been the case. Today, more than ever is being asked of the United States military not only to protect our freedom here at home but freedom around the world.

It disheartens me that so many folks, especially in the younger generation, do not understand the true cost of freedom. They think it just happens. They have no idea how fragile our freedom is and the blood, sweat, and tears it requires to preserve it. Behind the blood, sweat, and tears are our true American Heroes who serve a grateful Nation not only on the battlefield but with humanitarian aid in every way possible.

As we are about a week out from Veterans Day, please take the time to say thank you for your service in whatever way you feel appropriate. Veterans are often very proud individuals who don’t want or expect a lot of fanfare or attention. Please respect this and read the room, or I should say, individual. Maybe buy a veteran a cup of coffee, lunch, or even dinner if you would. Respect and honor not only those who are family members but also those you know nothing about. It does my heart and soul good that many Vietnam veterans are now getting the appreciation and understanding they deserve.

Many of the veteran appreciation events can be found within our pages ahead; please get out and about and help our veterans feel the love they deserve. I am proud again to be teaming up with the Insinger family and all the special people at Dolly’s Diner for our annual Veteran’s Appreciation Breakfast. A quick overview: on Wednesday, November 11th, from open to noon, all four Dolly’s Diner locations will be serving our veterans an All-American breakfast. Thank you to everyone at Dolly’s who make this happen, from everybody in the back of the restaurant to those who serve and greet. As it has continued to grow each year, it has required more effort from these folks. Please, if there’s a veteran in your life who maybe can’t make it for breakfast on his own, provide that helping hand needed; they would love to see them. They will enjoy much more than just a great breakfast.

As expected, the archery hunting season heated up as October closed out. Because of my deadline, I’m sure I’ll be hearing from you about those Halloween bucks in the upcoming week. Thank you to those who sent me pictures and got their trophy entered in the Webb Weekly Uncle Ron’s Monster Buck Contest. Full details can be found on page 41.

One successful archery harvest I would like to share with you is from our own Pastor Tim Hartzell. Hunting deep in state forest land, he arrowed this tank of a 9-point with a 17” spread. I have yet to catch up with him and get the complete story; however, I can tell you that wife Heather helped find and drag the bruiser out of the woods. Tip of my Webb Weekly hunting cap with the American flag on the side to the Hartzells. What a testimony to togetherness and age only being a number.

Remember, the trophy is in the hands of the holder, and every buck is eligible to enter Uncle Ron’s Monster Buck Contest.

I will finish this column with another heartfelt thank you to our veterans and a quick reminder. Before or after you stop at Dolly’s on Veterans Day, please don’t forget the good folks at Ultimate Express Car Wash. They are again saluting our veterans and military with a free car wash. Complete details can be found right below.

God Bless America.
