My Webb Weekly columns are submitted on a Friday. My lovely editor Steph is the best. She will occasionally reach out just before a deadline. BRO. I NEED YOUR ARTICLE. Everything is finished except for this page. I am getting better. I am taking my medications. I am a part-time mobile freelancer who suffers from PSD and Acute 3 procrastination. It runs in the family.
Today is no different. I just pulled into the Sheetz at Lewisburg. True story. There are so many great stories to share. It is a splendid time of year. The kids are back in session. College football started. The same with several high school sport seasons. Warrior golf tees it up soon. I love my guys.
Major props to Joey Fagnano. The Cinderella kid made the roster. Joe is a Baltimore Raven. Incredible journey. Much more on the former Millionaire down the road.
I have several gigs on the side. They are called my hustles. A few are legit. Some aren’t. They keep me in the loop. Teach doesn’t mind. Except for tax season. It was part of the package. She gave up on me 15 years ago.
I look forward to getting into the booth again this fall. I take pride in being a play-by-play announcer. My mom listens to every game. She always sings my praise. Some are still puzzled when I plug in my headset. WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT FOOTBALL? AREN’T YOU A BASKETBALL GUY? Valid.
I have been calling guys for 28 years now. Dead serious. I always have a resume in my pocket. I just sent one to Tim Kurkjian. He and I are friends. Could I be the next Karl Ravech?
I got my start in college. I was a student broadcaster for 91.7 WLYC and the Lycoming Warriors. I had so much fun in those three seasons. My senior years. I travelled in the same van with WRAK legend’s Ken Sawyer and Buck Byham. I was a sponge. Those guys taught me so much. Paint the picture. No one cares about your politics. You belong. You have a face for radio.
Lycoming was loaded those years. They dominated the pitch. Coach Girardi was the man. He still is. Frank would invite me to chat before each game. I will never forget. 20 minutes in his office every Friday. Coach G always made time for me and our 35 listeners. Rubbing elbows with the very best.
I was with many others for the next several years. I never found a home. It was hard. My demo tapes were denied. Radio was getting replaced. My game checks started bouncing. Teach was pissed. The sponsors went elsewhere. TV and ONLINE STREAMING became kings. My side gigs were in shambles. So were my dreams. I needed to regroup. Thank heavens I found my friends at IPTSPORTS.
We are not on the radio. IPTSPORTS is online. The picture is perfect, and the commentary is quite alright. Nick Caringi is our leader. He controls the board. Young Kyle and sometimes Maggie operate the HD cameras. Mike Lundy and I call the games. Our broadcasts are LIVE via YouTube. They can be viewed across the world. We have tons of fans in other places. My folks in CA tune in. Sometimes we even receive some love from other tariffed countries. Japan. Australia and Costa Rica.
Our sponsors are fantastic. We have many fans. I don’t pay much attention to the comments. Thick skin in this business. THEY SOUND GREAT WHEN THE GAME IS ON MUTE. ITS PEDERSON. NOT PETERSON. THIS ANNOUNCER IS AN IDIOT. DID HE JUST MAKE UP A WORD? WHO IS THIS GUY? It’s cool. I don’t respond. I always plead the fifth. It is just nice to know they are streaming.
We open up tonight. FRIDAY. Hazleton at Williamsport. 6:45 pregame. 7:00 kick. My headset is ready. I will do a mic check soon. I hope to see you at the NEW LOOK STA Stadium on the Hill. No worries if you can’t make it. Check us out on YouTube. I have a face for radio. Cheers.
