Wow, it’s hard to believe the calendar was flipped to August. Before you know it, the kids will be back to school as the fall sports preparation has already begun.

I have been asked many questions lately about tough topics affecting everything imaginable that our future generations will have to deal with. I think the best thing I can do is table these discussions and do a little more research.

Besides, for those of you who know me, I would much sooner talk about all the local events of August like Cutters baseball, Nittany Lion Football, the LLWS, and the hunting season ahead.

Putting forth the research and effort on subjects like artificial intelligence is too close to going back to school for me. And I never looked forward to that when I was young. One thing I can guarantee everybody: artificial intelligence will never compose my column for me.

Before we move on to the real football Pennsylvanians are passionate about, it’s time to wrap up our America 250 celebration. The good folks at Crosscutterland and Webb Weekly have honored our veterans, law enforcement personnel, and firefighters and emergency service folks. I have deemed what is normally known as our Crosscutter Grand Slam contest our All-American Crosscutter Giveaways this season. I feel it’s a perfect fit that our Nation’s 250th birthday coincides with 100 years of baseball at Historic Bowman Field, which makes it one of the oldest minor league ballparks woven into American history.

So, for my final contest, it just seemed fitting to honor the clergy in our one nation under God. I will work a little Second Amendment freedom into my column by noting the August 15th, 2026, Youth Shoot that can be found below. What a great opportunity for those between the ages of 5 and 16 presented by the Sulfur Springs Rifle and Revolver Club. If you’re interested, please note to pre-register by August 12th. Everyone is invited; entry is free. It’s limited to 60 children. And as I always state, remember when it comes to firearms and hunting, safety always comes first. This begins with a proper education.

I’ll close with a couple quick football thoughts. Beaver Stadium will become the largest collegiate football stadium in the Nation this year, passing the Big House at Michigan. I think new Nittany Lion Head Coach Matt Campbell and a favorable schedule will have the place rocking like never before.
