Thank you to everyone who took the time to talk with me about last week’s column, “Don’t Drink the Kool-Aid.” Long story short, it ended with, we don’t have to agree, but we need to be civil and work together to make a better future for our children and grandchildren. This rang true with almost everyone I talked with, no matter of political affiliation.
The other thing I heard often was that the individual felt they maybe should have voted differently; again, this was from both Republicans and Democrats. To keep things in perspective, you have to remember the why at that time you voted.
An example of this is Senator John Fetterman. I heard praise for the gentleman and how he was an example of doing what’s best for Pennsylvania’s citizens. However, even though he votes well over 90% of the time with the Democratic Party, this wasn’t enough for some. Does this mean we’ve reached the point when you have to vote 100% of the time with what the party wants? We have to remember that when he was elected, he was the party’s overwhelming choice, so did those few votes against party lines changes this?
I believe he’s done a great job representing his constituents and looking out for the best of all Pennsylvania voters. He has reached across party lines for the good of those depending on him and shown he will compromise. He will be reelected even if the Democrats in Washington try to get rid of him.
The most common voters’ remorse by far was over President Trump. And to be clear, I, without a doubt, spoke to more Republicans than Democrats, and many felt the same way. Most ended with, “What choice did I have?” To which I totally agree.
President Trump brought a lot of baggage with him to become the 47th president. However, we must remember what happened during the Biden Administration and how it ended. The DNC and all those associated covered up Biden’s inability to serve the people. President Trump won overwhelmingly; this took much more than just the Republican vote. Americans understood where the Nation was headed and that Kamala Harris and VP Candidate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz were a bad choice.
So, let’s circle back to President Trump. He is the most narcissistic, self-serving president we’ve ever had, who will insult anybody at any time if they don’t agree 100% with him. I think most who voted for him knew and understood this. However, the direction our Nation was going made him the only choice. This, coupled with how the Democrats went about removing Biden. They really believed that if they could keep him visible and alive, he would win, until they knew he wouldn’t win after the primaries.
President Trump campaigned on what Americans believed needed to change. His agenda was clearly stated with what needed to be done. The Democratic Party fought him at every turn and believed he had no chance twice. I have stated in articles, after his first election, how he needed to shift to be more presidential; he was now president, act like it. Again, before you get remorseful, it was first Hillary Clinton and Trump’s ability to take Democratic votes away from her, or the fact that many just didn’t vote because of her, that got him here to begin with.
So, what does this mean in a nutshell? No one should be remorseful about how they voted; hindsight is always 20/20. However, we can all vote differently in the future.
The latest divide among President Trump’s supporters is his criticism of Pope Leo. This isn’t the first time a president has criticized the Pope, but Trump has taken things to a whole new level. Without a doubt, he knows the Pope is viewed as the worldwide voice of Christianity. This point is enhanced by the media; however, there are many different Christian churches. I have often said that Christians must unite in the battle between good and evil. I have never thought what would bring them together was his self-created image of himself as Jesus Christ, then claimed he thought this was a doctor. Christians from every walk of life understood this, and truth and an apology would have gone a long way. But being Donald Trump, he just wouldn’t put the phone or social media down.
My message to President Trump is you can’t win the next election, but you can lose it for whoever is next up on the ballot. I think Americans are smart and understand where the far-left progressive movement wants to take our Nation, however you just can’t keep alienating potential voters and narrowing down the voting pool.
I can’t imagine the anxiety those closest to the President have or the challenges facing the Republican party in the upcoming election.
God Bless America.
