Golf is a Great Game

I was recently asked to tee it up in a few tournaments. I used to love golf, but now it’s totally different. Yes. I still coach at my alma mater. I continue to enjoy my interactions with the Lycoming College Warriors. I don’t play much personally. It’s cool. I don’t miss it. I’d rather do other things. I don’t remember the last time I golfed with friends just for fun. A few holes with Jensen, and that’s about it. I now stick to scrambles and these member guests.

I used to be a rather good player. I’m serious. My mom even made me a scrapbook. I golfed in high school, and I played in college. My first real job was with the United States Golf Association. I worked at White Deer Golf Course for 15 seasons. I just wrapped up my 17th year at Lycoming. I have played in many individual and team tournaments. I was competitive. I peaked when I was 25. My window is now closed.

I played three rounds with my good friend Eric Loudenslager. The Corey Creek Member Guest is always on the radar. I will continue to play as long as my gray-haired, free-spirited chum asks me. I love the course, and her people are outstanding. Eric played well. I didn’t. We didn’t light up the scoreboard, but we were respectful. A few may have accused us of bagging.

A few got on me. What happened to Spence? Didn’t he used to win these tournaments? I saw him shank one on ten. There was a time when I would smile. That was many years ago. Eric and I played a lot together. We had many fine finishes and some blurry memories. We even recorded a few victories. Clinton. Valley Farms. White Deer Memorial. And the Williamsport Invitational.

It was great to see some familiar faces. Many of my brothers to the north read the Webb Weekly. We talked hoops and fishing. Friendly conversations. I still blame Hutch for my bad ankle. Corey Creek is stunning. It was in great shape, and the rhododendrons were blooming. I love the big greens and the open fairways. Some of the views are outstanding.

Today, I am with my brother Bill Kieser. Williamsport Member Guest. FORE LEFT. I am sure there will be many tales from this weekend. I am currently in a greenside bunker. Golf is a great game, but I am searching. Cheers.
